which one and why ?
I have a HTC desire and an Iphone 4. Not much between them to be honest. Iphone 4 has HD video and itunes. Htc desire integrates better with flickr/facebook/twitter. Iphone4 has a higher quality feel than the HTC.
HTC will be able to be picked up a little cheaper I would imagine.
With respect, this exact thread has been created about five times so far now. I'd suggest searching back first of all (cos I'm damned if I'm typing big long edits again...!)
I'm not really into phones but my mate wanted to challenge my iPhone 3gs against his new desire HD, in the pub. The iPhone won as it displayed porn quicker and took less time to stream. I can only imagine the iPhone 4 is better still.
Surely a troll??
If not consult the search and if that still doesn't help then give us some feature and differentiators that are important to you (e.g. cost, display, camera, particular apps etc)
Why whenever anyone asks about phone comparisons do they have to be a troll...
Get a grip!!
I would like to know if anyone has used skype on iphone while on the move.
Been offered an iphone4 upgrade but might wait for the HTC Desire HD.

I would like to know how the pub test was carried out-is the HTC Desire HD released yet?? where did your friend get his HD from?
Desire hd is out 18th oct isn't it?

Because this question gets asked roughly twice a week and always turns into a fanboi handbag fight?
I've got a galaxy s. Had an iphone 3gs before (lost/nicked). didn't want to pay the extra for iphone 4 at the time. Now wishing that i had. Prefer how apple works over android.
Surf Mat and CountZero to the thread please.
Frankenstein I am sure that's the handset he has got, anyway this wasn't the gadget show and as someone else pointed out after, network availability could have affected performance in the pub porn challenge.
TLR are you still up for that ride-off? (not at certain trail centres you'll recall).
i like the sound of the HTC desire HD.
better screen, better camera, better web browser than the iphone4...............
what about the galaxy s ?
?

Erm.. iPhone 4 screen is 960-by-640, Desire HD is 800-by-480 ?
Why is the HD better?
graham s - resolution's not noticeable and the screen is way bigger.
What gets me is people complain about how big the iPhone 4 is and praise the desire for the size of the screen. Whatever. All the info's here, make your own mind up. I make no apologies for being a keen user of Apple products. I've used Macs professionally for fifteen years, when they were still beige boxes, and the OS was a revelation after having to suffer DOS. I bought an iPod long after many people had them, after I bought my first computer, a PowerBook, seven years ago, and I waited for the 3G iPhone before ditching my crappy N95. There were no Android phones then, there was nothing that came close to the iPhone. Now there is, but I'm not interested as I have far too much invested in the phone I use. There are seven people I work with who have them out of fifteen, and no Android phones of any description, which says a lot. And no, we're not office bods sat in front of Macs, we're all print finishing and mailing. There is a stunning variety of smartphones available now that just didn't exist even three years ago, thanks to Apple and the iPhone. Rejoice in the choice and get what suits you best. It'll just get better and better.
As an iPhone user...
...my wife's galaxy s really is very good, especially considering how much cheaper it is. Android isn't quite as polished as the iPhone but it's not far off. I still think I'd go for the iPhone because I use it a hell of a lot so can live with the extra cost but I'd not be unhappy with the galaxy.
whT ABOUT satnav and google maps, etc ?
graham s - resolution's not noticeable and the screen is way bigger.
Hmm I don't really buy that: a bigger, lower resolution screen isn't "better" to me. It just makes the whole device bigger and heavier for no gain.
Not convinced that 200,000 odd less pixels is not noticeable, but 20mm on the screen size is.
what about the 8meg camera and flash on browser ?
what about the free embedded maps ? google earth ? street view ?
apple have none of that ?
whT ABOUT satnav and google maps, etc ?
What's the SatNav like on the iPhone4?
I have a Nokia 5800 at the moment which is obviously not in the same league as the three discussed above but the SatNav (which I use a lot) is excellent.
I would dearly love the Nokia N8 to be a great device but I'm not sure it is. I've never really felt the need to shell out for an iPhone 'til I saw the '4' in the flesh. I think it's gorgeous.
It does have google earth. Not sure what an embedded map is though.
Got google earth and street view. Plenty of embedded maps available, including free ones..
8 meg is certainly more than the 5 meg on on the iPhone. No idea how the quality compares mind you but I only take photos on my phone to stick on facebook and it it is plenty good enough for that.
Flash in the browser: well if you need it then fair enough. I can't think of any website I need flash for.
What's the SatNav like on the iPhone4?
Tom Tom, CoPilot, Navmii, GPS Drive, skobbler, Nav free, waze...

You speak the truth, I'm exactly in the same boat as you.
I shall be choosing the HD Desire, mainly because I'm not paying £13.99 for iphone insurance a month, F@@K THAT!
I take it you downloaded the new satnav version for the 5800 which is much clearer to use?
N8 is still going to be running Symbian though so no good for a phone for all my needs type.
Still looks good mind.
The old macs were damn good and impressed me but Apple aren't really grabbing me with the iphone tbh.

...Navigon, Sygic....
onceinalifetime :I shall be choosing the HD Desire, mainly because I'm not paying £13.99 for iphone insurance a month, F@@K THAT!
Erm....why would you? I have it as a named item on my home insurance for no extra cost.
Why do you think you have to pay for insurance, it's entirely voluntary. Anyway, this might give some people something to think about, though it could never happen here...http://www.boingboing.net/2010/10/05/t-mobile-sneaks-root.html
i wish the iphone had something that would let you see appointments / to do's / memos on the home screen.
My HTC typhoon (windows mobile) i had 4 yrs ago could do that, as can my cheapo nokia now. But on an apple iphone? Sorry no can do unless you jailbreak it.
I think the iphone smart bit of kit with a great camera and design, but without that feature or other homescreen info widgets like the desire they will probably lose a sale from me. (am currently undecided iphone / desire but now leaning more towards the desire)
Mainly because I don't own a house! Like some of the rich/elderly off here.
Plus insurance for the 1st 60% odd of my contract time is a must.
Was paying £4.99 pm, but £13.99 pm, JUST BECAUSE IT'S AN ''IPHONE'', no ta.
Plus insurance for the 1st 60% odd of my contract time is a must.
Eh? What you mean it's a condition of the contract?? Never heard of that, who's that with?
The 5800 lovers above, the N8 really is a *lot* better (i've had one a few weeks now). (and a lot cheaper than an iphone). Happy to answer questions etc.
My android phone (X10) has been gathering dust since I got the N8 (and I *like* the X10).
Folk thinking the desire's cam is better than the iphone 4 - it's not. More megapixels but they aint everything. You'll take better photos with the iphone. HTC can't make camera's for toffee, and the cam software's much better on an iPhone.
Screen res argument above - the extra size is more noticeable than the extra res. Going from 4 to 3.5 inches the screen size is the thing i miss most about the X10.
To the OP - as you asked the Q, you're obviously not keen to tinker etc. so if that doesn't appeal about android, get the iPhone. If costs comes into it (and it doesn't for everyone) get the desire or the galaxy. Comes down to battery life vs. a few bugs which is best...
a ride off like I say, you middle class Honda aspiring fool.
ok I will allow Glentress even though you will have a clear advantage.
GrahamS- it's a must for ''me'' is what I should of written.
@IA - so what's the N8 upto then, used the hdmi yet?
Is the new symbian V3 any faster than the 5800/x10??????????????
