Used to stay near Ilfracome (Damage Barton!) quite a lot during the early 80s I though it was OK. Proppa little working English seaside town with independent shops and non H&S-obsessed facilites. If you fell off the pier while fishing it was your own fault.

Had changed quite a bit the last time I went, lots of places had closed down. Tracksuits & double-parked vans all over the place

Croyde, Saunton and Putsborough are much nicer.

The best thing about Ilfracombe is the Yacht Club, but it was 10-15 years ago since I was last there. 🙁
