Mrs took me there as our first weekend away together - highlight was driving over to Saunton for a surf.
It's a bit like Bude, we went there twice, the first time it was bad, the second to see if it was really that bad. ๐
The Mr's ordered Cheddar Cheese chom-chom in an Ilfracombe Indian resturant a year or so back. Ordered it out of curosity incase your wondering
What arrived at the table was curry sauce with chunks of cheddar cheese in it
I'm not sure I'll ever see cheddar cheese chom-chom on another Indian resturant menu in the UK
But if you do want to eat it, Ifracombe's the place
you people need to get to Exmouth in south east Devon for a weekend so that you can get a sense of perspective..
Shall be spending may bank holiday in the Saunton Sands hotel, having fish and chips in Squires and then a carvery in the Williams Arms.
That's all my boxes ticked.
South Devon FTW! (Spent much of my youth in the South Hams. On the correct side of the estuary, daaaahling. 8) )
phwoooaaaar.. I had haddock and chips from Squires on sunday.. believe the hype..

If I was going to name an event;

I might say the name out loud before I signed it off;
"ISLE OF ARTS organisers ..."
the wee aquarium on the quay in ilfracombe was ok for getting the kids out the rain. stick to croyde saunton etc if you have the choice.
had fish and chips in squires myself at the weekend. very nice.
Don't forget to take your holiday money into Southfork for some bike goodies.
Never used Squires, always used the chip shop in South Street. I must say I have never been in Southfork bike shop - way too many surf shop to distract me from biking stuff.
Agree with Flashy, South Devon (Salcombe in particular) is superb. Correct side of the estuary though ๐
And we all know which side that is, don't we? ๐
Ilfracombe isn't that bad really, though I wouldn't want to live there (or indeed any small coastal resort) on a permanent basis.
I quite like the tunnels and imagine it'd be a decent enough place to take the kids for a week. Plus easy access to Croyde and Woolacombe etc etc
I stayed there once with an awful ex-girlfriend. She wanted to laze about watching soaps, meanwhile I went surfing and met loads of lovely people.
The one with all the beaches, but less people ๐
Oh I don't know, a friend owns a house with the only land access to beach near the entrance of the estuary in the wrong side, it works for me!!

Heard them all - Grew up in Berrynarbor and went to school in Ilfracombe.
I love coming home now though (I currently live in Colorado). Fantastic surfing, walking, riding. Great food in so many lovely local pubs, and people who are genuinely friendly no matter what car you're driving.
And now I live here (just for some perspective!):
Ilfracome has a special place in my heart..
I went on holiday once (Woolacombe )and forgot all my underpants. I found a shop in Ilfracome that was still full of stock fresh out the 70's, including the wonderful new pants I procured therin.
It was about 1995
I see he gets his good looks from his mother.... ๐
Does he always wear a bow tie to the beach?
You must be dead posh.
I think Ilfracombe is quite nice, but I have spent alot of time in Wolverhampton.
I insist on full three piece suits with accompanying neck wear on all beach visits.....Keeps the standard up you see.....

He's frequently playing mind games with me.....though his crime solving rate is a bit disappointing!

Paul smith deck chair too?! I'm quite jealous of him ๐
Any other photographers wander in here by mistake?

Used to stay near Ilfracome (Damage Barton!) quite a lot during the early 80s I though it was OK. Proppa little working English seaside town with independent shops and non H&S-obsessed facilites. If you fell off the pier while fishing it was your own fault.
Had changed quite a bit the last time I went, lots of places had closed down. Tracksuits & double-parked vans all over the place
place is riddled with prostituion according to the Shat......

Croyde, Saunton and Putsborough are much nicer.
The best thing about Ilfracombe is the Yacht Club, but it was 10-15 years ago since I was last there. ๐
Have you done the award winning Illfracombe Aquarium?
Won the award for best aquarium in Illfracombe, so I've heard.
If you want some decent music down there it might be worth checking out Future Doom?
