where from?

If you add the tail cap switch it works pretty well as a bike/back up light

Thats interesting as I won a AA maglite of Construction News last year and have had no reason to use it

Just changed my maglight 'bulb' this week as it died, £2.50 for two! Bargain I thought!!
Has anyone used this led conversion?
...it's just that I seem to remember someone saying they get really hot it use, or have i remembered it wrong?
QPosted 2 years ago # -
ive heard somthing about it getting hot, shouldnt be too bad with cold air at night though. I currently have the cheap non-cree led upgrade on my aa maglite and it isnt that bad as a climbing light, not enough for descending though. That wont bee half 140 lumens i dont think so that cree upgrade should be pretty good.

Hmmm... that looks very impressive. I've got an old LED conversion in mine, but it's completely inadequate for bike duties.
Does anyone know of a good helmet mount for a mini maglite? I feel an upgrade coming on!Posted 2 years ago # -
if you wrap it in 1 layer of broken inner tube, zip tie 3 times with small ones, then use bigger zip ties to attach to your helmet it wont come off.

there's a couple of examples on that site above, I might dig out the length of elastic later

heat could be an issue. as a professional user of maglites they eat normal bulbs through getting hot over prolonged periods. an interesting upgrade though.

You could get 2 tesco torches for the cost of that upgrade. A tesco torch is as bright or brighter I would say. I like the ability to change focus though. Hmm, got a redundant mini maglight here that was my best friend for a couple of desert camping trips. Maybe I'll give it an upgrade.

Hi,
I have been told by a customer of mine that the fenix handle bar and helmet mount work well with the Maglite AA LED and Incandescent.
pic here too http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270378826841Link/url

should also mention if you use the new mag aa led with electronic switch this upgrade wont fit as the led bulb is sealed in the torch.

I did the upgrade the other week and to be honest I didnt think it is that great. My Tesco 3w AA is much brighter. If i get a chance I will try and sort some beam shots out.

Was that the standard 3 LED upgrade? Was it a cree(little yellow tint in the middle and flat) upgrade?Posted 2 years ago # -
got this upgrade for my mini maglite and another for my D-cell maglite. The AA maglite is bright but not that impressive. Definitely not as bright as the Tesco torches some of my friends ride with. The D cell maglite is stonking. However I converted both to save on batteries. I hate it when you come to use a torch and find the batteries flat.

Its the same one in the link above the cree 140 lumen upgrade. I bought it from the same site.
I have just compared it again to my Tesco and the Tesco wins easy.Posted 2 years ago # -

just to verify as this will affect whether i buy one was it the exact same one not the normal led upgrade?Posted 2 years ago # -
just sorting out some beam shots now

My Fenix L2D was only £40 and has 180 lumens - and even that's not really very bright

great stuffPosted 2 years ago # -

Beam shot taken at about 1.5m from the wall on an iphone. Tesco on the left mag aa on the right. using new batteries in both.

could you tell me which tesco torch that was and how much is it?Posted 2 years ago # -
It was the 3W AA. Looks similar to a maglite just a touch bigger. I'm not sure if they still do them it cost about a tenner. Ive had mine for about a year now.
Posted 2 years ago # -
when i went to tescos earlier, there was a gap in the shelf for them with a label saying "temporarily out of stock"
Posted 2 years ago # -
£16 is a good chunk of the way towards a P7 torch, batteries and charger too...
Posted 2 years ago # -
I put one in my maglite with a clicky tail cap, mine looks alot brighter than the one in the picture above
Use mine in work alot, tis' bloody good I think, cost me about £20 all in though as I got the torch for a couple of quid.

I wonder if mine is defective then?
Posted 2 years ago # -
they brung out a cree upgrade and then a new improved one that fixed problems i think. The 'extreme' version, TLE-5EX Ministar 2.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Anyone found a reasonable price for the d cell upgrade - looks like around £25, which is a lot.....
