I’m heading up for the Scott marathon this w/e and going to have Monday til Wednesday riding in the lakes. I’m thinking of booking in to Windermere YHA campsite and doing 3 days of wild riding? Any ideas GPX. files preferable.

You don’t say how long the rides you’re looking for are, but look for Nan Bield/3 Passes, natural stuff around Grizedale, Loughrigg, Iron Keld. There’s a lot more, it depends how much traveling about you want to do though.

Yeah sorry maybe not enough information. Ride length about 30-50 miles mainly cross country type of riding. Don’t mind driving from Windermere if there is a decent ride.

The Calf/Bowderdale or Cross Fell/High Cup Nic
Easy enough to do those kinds of miles around Grizdale bridle ways, Torver, Conniston/Walna Scarr.

What they say down there…….

30-50 miles….Cross counrty…. Have you seen how hilly it is up here?.

We`ve had people with us on a Tuesday night who say that they ride and average of 25-30 miles on a night ride……They were goosed after 12 miles, (that was up Skiddaw n back down) 😉

Biketreks in Ambleside, or any of the lakes bake-shops have excellent classic route maps in the area, have a good one

Stoney has a good point, 30 miles is a long day out in the Lakes, to do 50 you would need some good map reading skills and be flipping quick. 🙂

Don’t underestimate how technical the riding is and how much hike a bike is involved the way I did. I joined the Tuesday night ride and found myself way out my depth but the guys and girls looked after me and made sure I got back.

There is whinlatter forest for trail centre riding and I picked up a leaflet from keswick MTB which had 4 or 5 routes mapped out. Did one round lonscale fell and down the side of latrigg back into keswick.

Park Ambleside, Loughrigg Terrace to Grasmere, Grasmere Tongue to Grisedale tarn, Carry up Dollywagon, Helvellyn, Lower Man, Raise, Sticks, Either Seldom Seen or Greenside, Glenridding, Angle tarn, Knott (you got lost ok ? I’ll deny this conversation), Racecourse Hill, Thornithwaite Beacon, Froswick, Ill Bell, Yoke, Garburn to Troutbeck, Jenkin Cragg to Ambleside.

Lakes riding cant be classified in miles. But that should see you right. Start early and take lights.

Park at Brotherswater, carry the bike up High Street then ride back down towards Pooley Bridge turning back early and riding back along the shore of Ullswater.

Trying to imagine that ride in my head lowey, sounds a big un!

Lowey’s ride sounds like a good one. (If a long one!)
