  • How much does your 26" Soul weigh?

I can’t help feeling mine should be lighter (large frame 27.5lbs). Inspire me with some real world 25lb builds.

    I haven’t got one.

Sorry to disappoint, but with pro2 evos on Arch Ex tubeless nics, XT 2×10 group and reverb mine’s a porky 26lb with its current magura thor. It’s a bit lighter when I’ve got the Reba on it, but it’s not quite as much fun.

    No idea.

    But it rides light 🙂

It’s a steel framed HT, built with even decent parts 2×10 or 3×10 it’ll always be nearer 30lbs than 25lbs…

My wife’s 26″ Soul is 12Kg – XS frame, X-fusion Velvet shocks, Reverb dropper; 2×10 drivetrain; Shimano SLX brakes; Hope wheels; Bontrager XR4/XR3 tyres (tubeless); Hope flat pedals. She didn’t go for anything stupidly expensive to get the weight down.

My Solaris – large frame; 1×10 drivetrain; everything else basically the same as above (29er wheels obviously) comes out at 12.7Kg just slightly heavier than yours.

Swapping out the Reverb and the forks for rigid versions would cut something like 1.5Kg off the weight, carbon handlebars would save another 100g or so.

With pedals? Find that hard to believe as that is the same as my equivalently built Ti-framed HT.

No, without pedals…. The same way the industry weighs them. Charge spoon, answer pro taper carbon bars, on one stem and foam grips.

My mk2 small with 1×10 XT, Marz 44RC3 (converted to air), Crests on switch hubs, NN rear+FA front, Hilo 27.2 seatpost, nanos, Formula the ones – so all lightweight components, is 27lb or thereabouts.

I think mine is just over 22lbs but thats helped by 120mm SIDs, American Classic race wheels, carbon bars and post and 1×10 xtr and no dropper.

Great for woodsy xc stuff but did struggle recently in the quantocks in the more rocky bits. With revs and a dropper it’s a more usable 25lbs odd.

Just under 26lbs with Reba 120s, pro2/crests, XT 3×10, decent carbon post and bars, KCNC stem, Gobi kium, Hope Tech brakes and floating rotors

B r, why the mirth? Have you seen any ads for bikes which show bike weights with pedals? Which pedals should I put on it for the next weigh-in?

My dekerf’s 1850g. with cromoto forks (1080g) crests on a2z and revs, hone cranks, philcentric EBB, carbon bars, SS, slx brakes, 2.4 race kings and MG1 flats is 21.3 lbs

… with 100mm forks the bike is great for fast singletrack type riding. XC racing? Why not? With some light wheels and forks you’d easily get a Soul down to the 22-23lbs mark. If you want another vote for the suitability of the handling, the Soda has identical geometry and Kate Potter (my tame XC racer) has used a Soda with 100mm forks right up to the World Champs. I think that probably covers it

    POSTED 5 YEARS AGO # REPORT-POST

So with less racey fork and more traily wheels +2.5lbs?

    About 26lbs.

Medium mk3, reverb, fox float 140, hope pro/arch ex, specialised 2.3 tyres, 1×10 XT, SLX brakes, charge spoon, alloy Wiser bars. So nothing special

21grams. Apparently. Don’t think anyone has been able to measure the size of a soul as yet. 😉

Suspect the bathroom scales measurement of MissisRob’s Simple the other day was a little optomistic at a little over 21 pounds  Carbon forks, but they still weigh something…

It’s a steel framed HT so it’ll be a massive 1lb heavier than an equivalent al alloy or Ti hardtail…

    Mine is about 26.5lbs.

Between 24 and 27 lbs depending which wheels and bits are on it.

OP – you can always build it lighter, but the question only you can answer is will it be any better?

mine is 26 lbs exactly fully built with Time Roc attack pedals – Medium Mk 3, 120mm Reba Solo Air, XT 2×10 groupset, 719’s with tubes and Spesh purgs, carbon haven bars, reverb, Adamo Peak saddle, Thomson stem and clamp.

My medium Mk3 is about 27lbs with cheap Manitou Minute forks, 3×9 and Stans Crests on SSC Switch hubs. Feels and rides light enough and is still fun, which is all that matters really 🙂

Spent a happy hour in the garage yesterday seeing what it could be with different combinations.
All figures below are WITHOUT PEDALS. If it bothers you, you can mentally add 400g for XT trail pedals, or 500g for Nano thrupins. 😀

Frame is a Mk3 medium, with Answer Carbon bars, SRAM contour foam grips, SLX brakes, XT shifters, XT M785 2×10, Gusset BB, Hope Pro2 Evo with Arch Ex, 2.2 Snakeskin Nics run tubeless, XT 11-36 cassette, XT Shadow plus rear mech, SLX 2x front mech band on, reverb seatpost and charge spoon saddle. .

With Magura Thor 140 AM fork it weighs exactly 12kg, so 26lb 7 oz

With Reba SL fork 11.7kg, so 25lb 12oz

With a carbon post and a knife saddle off my roadbike it weighed 11.2 kg in Reba flavour, that’s 24lb 11oz.

I’m toying with converting it to 1×10, and last time I did that with a similar drivetrain I saved 300g, so 1×10 with carbon post and knife saddle that would bring it under 11kg, let’s say 10.9 kg, or 23lb 13oz.

Too much time on my hands? Possibly. It rides best with the reverb and Thor by the way, although the Reba is a lot of fun.

Why did they stop making the Soda… I’d have one of them in a shot.

Large mk3, Rev’s, 1×10 SLX, Reverb, carbon bars, Hope/Crest wheels and Spec rubber, just under 27lb with pedals on our cheap luggage scales.

I believe it’s because the costs became unrealistic.
