    ..and who pays their salaries?

I mean, where does the money come from to fund such a huge organisation? sympathetic voters? News International? EU subsidy?

I recently bought (or is it brought? 😆 ) all three episodes for £15 (including the Original versions). Just amazed at the size of the Death Star relative to the Malenium Falcon, and it got me thinking how much it would have cost to build it / run. So who pays?

I miss those days of crap graphics and low expectations.

How many people work on the Death Star

The Death Star has a crew of 265,675, as well as 52,276 gunners, 607,360 troops, 30,984 stormtroopers, 42,782 ship support staff, and 180,216 pilots and support crew.

Also btw, its hangars contain assault shuttles, blastboats, Strike cruisers, land vehicles, support ships, and 7,293 TIE fighters. It is also protected by 10,000 turbolaser batteries, 2,600 ion cannons, and at least 768 tractor beam projectors.

    .

    ..and who pays their salaries?

The salaries are paid for by taxation.

    7,293 TIE fighters

And yet they only sent about 50 out to stop the Rebel attack? Surely that's poor propaganda for the Empire. I bet Vader was always dashing about trying to run the thing single handed. No wonder he's always out of breath. Master of the Darkside or not, that's gotta be exhausting. Tsk.

You not heard the mothers of storm troopers complaining about the lack of supplies for the TIE Fighters?

I remember the video game. The concept & graphics were ahead of their time. I wonder if you can get a modern version?

I downloaded a copy for my PC yesterday. Haven't had a chance to play it yet though. It's meant to be an exact clone of the original Atari Arcade game. That's my weekend sorted.

What i want to know is how do you build something like the deathstar. I mean, where would you start ?

as there is no gravity in space, it would be easier than you think i reckon.

the hardest part is getting the parts up there, but strap some ibeam onto the minellinum falcon, and start with the basic frame structure, it could easily be manhandled into position by a person, though they probably would have used droids, and then spot welded or bolted down.

once the basic frame is up, its just a case of putting in the structural elements, then modular plastic units for the inhabited parts of the ship.

    like building a boat?

It's not that simple though. There's all that builders tea to be made in a zero gravity environment for a start. Plus getting space suits with suitable bum crackage.

I mean, where would you start ?

Well you would start off by getting a skip.

Every construction project needs a skip dropped off before work can start.

yeah that always annoyed me the death star was stuffed with fighters

they sent a convincing 50 tie fighters after the millenium falcon and han never thought that was suspicous

Ypu know, I think the STW massiv could build a Death Star. We've certinly got enough decent metal lying around…..

    Scaffolding?

Erm…….. it looks as if scaffolding might not be necessary – you should be able to reach most of it standing on a stool
