I bought a set from a chap who said they were under powered. I said it was probably down to set up and they were pants on his bike. Anyway, I gave them a tinker and put them on the wife's bike and they're awsome.
Hope Tech Evo X2: Disappointed..
Interesting this richie, I am currently awaiting my new bike and have opted for some hope v2's...previously used xt, the model prior to ice tech, will have to see how they fare, going for larger rotors tho. I had mini mono's a few years back and never had any issues hence why I went for hope...
Quick update on this: I changed the rotors, popped new pads in and the brakes are now excellent. We stuck the old discs in a bike with brakes that were working properly and they were suddenly rubbish. Looks like the discs were contaminated.
The last two rides the brakes have been excellent. How the discs got contaminated i dont know, i'm always really carefull. I suspect something got on them when it was parked in the shop next to my work stand..
I run 203mm rotor front and 180mm back on my X2 and they are brilliant lovely feel to lever and they stop you on six pence
I run X2's with 183 rotors both ends, they are fantastic and I'm 14 stone. I like a soft feel with the power only really biting when I really need it so the X2's suit me.
Glad they worked out for you RichieBoy first saw this post just after I'd ordered some so I was a bit worried! I'm running X2 front and rear with 183mm floating discs on a hardtail and so far I've found them excellent with bags of feel and power. I'm coming back into cycling from motorbikes and they have a similar feel to Yamaha monobloc calipers - just what I was looking for worlds apart from the Juicy 3's I had on before which could be terrifying at times.
I hope you guys realize that the much lighter Race X2 is about 25 percent more powerful than the Tech X2 and that there is practically no point buying the tech x2 over the tech m4 in terms of weight. The Race X2's are powerful enough for downhill at race speed.
Do your homework next time.
Bwaarp I got tech 2 to replace m4 as I wanted one piston each side rather than two and didn't get race tech as with discounts and sales the race were 75 more expensive than tech 2 , not worth it for me . And if I was bothered about weight I wouldn't ride with a rohloff
