I was just typing away and my right arm started tingling and then going numb (it still is a bit), then it spread to my right leg, and I actually missed my chair and half fell over going to sit down, but a minute later I was able to jump on the spot, only for it to come back for a while. It happened once last autumn too, though only the arm that time. I wonder if it might be low blood pressure? My first thought was 'stroke' but I can't feel any mental deficiency.

I was laughing with a colleague about ton's sudden death thread yesterday 🙂

You won't notice the mental deficiency, we've all seen it in you for ages 😉

Think i'd be off to the docs though, hope it's nothing serious for you!

"I can't feel any mental deficiency"

I guess it depends where you set the bar…

odd it's only one side – normally if I get a blood pressure related thing it's the same both sides.

in my view the fact it's on one side only would warrant a trip to the docs, tbh.

I've been for a CT scan & EEG but they're not willing to commit to what it may have been until I've had more tests and an MRI, but I'm under doctor's orders to eat more due to low blood sugar :o)

I hope you're ok Simon, and that it's a harmless occasional anomaly.

and that it's a harmless occasional anomaly.

well, this was the 2nd episode, and a lot worse than the first, but I just found it funny 🙂 Stuff happens, then you die!

I remember when one of my friends had a proper turn and collapsed at home for no apparent reason. The doctor who treated him in the hospital said 7 out of 10 people have a funny one at some point in their lives. And thinking about it, pretty much everyone I know has had some kind of funny turn.

    I've not obviously. I'm a singlespeeder.

I had a bout of funny turns, one was soooo funny I had to spend a night in hospital..Ha ha

Eat more was pretty much the advice I was given as well.

I'd say don't be complacent, and make sure you keep on at the doctors. Not to be morbid [cue morbidity] my dad starting having slight tremors and numbness in his right hand – turned out it was a brain tumour. It started being a very occasional thing, but kept on increasing in frequency and severity before he got it checked out.

No sudden death though, he lasted over 15 years with it, mostly with good health – didn't need chemo or radiotherapy until the last couple of years.

when I looked at the NHS site on TIAs the advice was pretty much my normal lifestyle 🙂 However I think I shall appreciate the weekend's biking with an extra edge!

I had a turn a few years ago, was getting ready to go to the gym one evening at home, and suddenly couldnt balance and had to lie on the floor. It was the strangest thing. Crawled to my bed and climbed up, and when my GF came home about 15 minutes later, she sh*t herself as my speech was slurred and my mouth was drooping, numb down one side too! What was really weird was that I felt normal other than I couldnt remember the name of things or her! I knew the lamp beside the bed was a lamp just didnt know the name for it. Totally weird. She called NHS24 and they said to get me to hospital ASAP. Went there, but by the time I got there, it was getting better and I just felt really sick, and exhausted. Took me about a week to feel totally normal again. Went to to specialists etc, and it turns out it was a Haemoplegic Migraine, which gives all the symptoms of a brain haemmorage, but is obviously temporary.

Havent had anything like it since

    Hi Simon

With all the usual caveats about medical advice on a bike forum

And not wanting to add to your understandable anxiety

But you might want to get your medical advisors to rule out MS (multiple sclerosis)

It goes under a number of other names these days, but pins-and-needles and numbness are prominent indicators for early onset of this condition

No doubt it will turn out – as usual for those of us of relatively advanced years – to be just another of those interesting temporary conditions our body turns up to remind us not to get cocky about our longevity, however fit we may feel.

    Hoping for something utterly trivial!

Good grief, some people are doom and gloom 🙄 The amount of time you spend 'typing away' it could well be something as simple as compressing a nerve or a just high speed 'anking accident.

Had a 'funny turn' about 15 years ago – for no apparent reason my brain would not communicate with my mouth and sentences came out with the correct words but in entirely random order. Went for a walk for 1/2 hour and returned to normal. Very weird.

    Good luck with the tests

Had various similar episodes – one turned out to be a radial nerve palsy (no right arm for a year).

More recently, odd vibrations in my chest – felt like a mobile phone constantly ringing in a breast pocket – had the full gamut of blood tests, MRI etc – all clear thank the Lord / Buddah / Spaghetti monster.

    So 50% chance you're fine 🙂

a just high speed 'anking accident.

For most of us, this isn't a credible explanation

But I suppose if you choose to call yourself "woody", "high speed 'anking" sort of defines you

How anyone in a post-porn world can call himself "Woody" beggars belief. Do you have a "Fluffer"?

i remember you from the days of old, simon. sorry to hear you're having these worries.

whatever the outcome – hopefully nothing more than a few nerve issues – i'm sure this gives you a new perspective on life 'n' stuff. nothing like peering into the abyss to give you a greater appreciation of what you can so easily lose.

if you turn out to be severely time-limited, come out to Viet Nam and i'll show you a few trails around Da Lat which will add some focus to your remaining days 🙂

    best wishes with this,

    ro.

Ok, being realistic about this from the minimal information you've posted:
-I wouldn't say it's a nerve damage as it's affected both arm and leg, and came on rapidly without any obvious trauma, and resolved as quickly.
    – MS… again unlikely in view of more obvious diagoisis…
    – brain tumour symptoms come on slowly and don't really pass.
I'd say you had a TIA to be honest.

Visit GP for referral to TIA clinic for further investigations.
I'd start taking 75mg aspirin daily to lower risk of further ones….

Re TIA – I thought that a possibility initially (and as you say very limited info) but doesn't explain the rapid recovery followed by return of symptoms after jumping up and down, unless, of course, it was followed immediately by another. SFB mentions low BP, I wonder if the opposite is true ?

Tingling and numbness down one arm or leg, or more disturbingly half your face, can be a symptom of migraine.

went to the doc recently, have had a bit of a cough for a month or or 3or 4.
Doc says "what can I do for you today"
Me " I have had this cough etc"
doc "and what would you like the outcome to be? "
He increase my asthma meds even tho I told him my peak flo was OK, I could swim, bike and go to the gym without using my inhaler with a "we will try this first"

Is this the new bedside manners/cliche outcome

Got up and walked out. Seriously considering moving practice

Hope you get a resolution SFB..gtws
