   GF is looking for a bike on the c2w scheme. Seems a flat-bar road bike or hydrid is ideal (bit of commuting, day rides/tours).

   I've not looked around much, but these Boardmans seem good VFM - is the frame going to be made of scaffolding? Are Tektro brakes any cop?

   I picked up a Boardman hybrid comp s/hand the other day, for a mate, in very good nick - same as your second link.

   I'm impressed - good looking, no obvious cost cutting or dubious speccing. Like the idea of discs and just riding around my house for 5 minutes it felt tight and responsive. SRAM gears were good and accurate, steering was good. All in I'd say it's a good deal. I bought mine for £250, so half the price of RRP.

   The boardmans's tend to be great value for money, along with the carrera's (though they tend to be cheaper/lower spec). What I did like the look of, bit more expensive though, was the GT Zum hybrid. No idea on the spec/value but thought it looked good (hey isn't that a major part of buying a bike):
