That’s pretty good Rob. Takes me back to part of my youth in Brum’s rock clubs!

Eddies, XL’s & The Costermonger! Too much snakebite & black to renember them all that clearly

There’s some seriously good stuff in this thread, but seeing as we’ve gone in the direction of quirky, kinda fun covers that aren’t worth a second listen I give you:

I would have completely spazzed out if I’d been in the audience for that Walk cover. It simultaneously activates my pleasure centre and outrage lobe.

<edit- ZOMG, their version of Heaven Can Wait is incredible. THANK YOU!>

A cover I’m particularly fond of, it manages to keep the darkness of the original, in a much simpler form:

Well, I have to say you’re not far wrong, although it’s the one Heart song that you’re most likely to hear on the radio, probably on Heart!
Not a favourite of mine, I prefer Crazy On You and Magic Man from Dreamboat Annie.
    Much better power pop.
Speaking of which, I’m really rather fond of this, as well as the original:

A couple of decades passed until I found out that Queensryches ‘gonna get close to you’ was a cover. Damn fine one at that.

Judas priests cover of ‘Diamonds and Rust’ far surpasses the original.

One of only two UK a cappella number ones. The other was Caravan of Love by the Housemartins. Also a cover. 🙂

Well, I have to say you’re not far wrong

    I never am 😉

I have to say, to me “great cover” is also an oxymoron apart from very very few exceptions. None of which I can see on this thread… I mean Flying Pickets? I love a novelty hit*, but come on…

I am a huge fan of Cat Power, her covers of Joni Mitchell’s Blue and Satisfaction and things to behold (as are most of her Covers and Jukebox albums).

I remember being very taken with Jeffrey Lewis’s 12 Crass Songs.

My most recent purchase was Bonnie Prince Billy’s Best Troubador, a ‘tribute’ album to the late great ‘Hag’.

I was also extremely partial to a Luna cover of two (Indian Summer, Bonnie & Clyde, Sweet Child of Mine…).

However, my favourite at the moment is Gillian Welch’s version of Go On Downtown

    Why? Define ‘cover’.
    Which is the cover:

Have to agree with dez, vast majority of covers are no improvement on the original.
