  • Glasgow (north) trails?

Been hearing rumours of some MTB trails in Lennox Forrest that have poss been given the go ahead.. Found a Facebook page but that seems to indicate that it’s still in the campaigning stage rather than being approved already..
Used to cycle up there years ago when all the north shore stuff seemed to appear then disappear overnight.
Would be great to see something done there but would be worried it goes a similar way as CV.

Speaking of which- was up last night and apart from lots of logging looks like a few bits were closed due to maintenance work- the bit we rode was a bit more interesting… Hopefully the rest will have been improved too!

The lennox forest project currently has approval for ‘bike park’ areas within the forest. There is no agreement as yet that trails are to be built or how they are managed within what’s been accepted.

It’s a community driven project that aims to provide better facilities for users and promote economic grown within the Campsie area.

Ideas around the table include the skills bike park areas for all abilities, interlinking and graded routes both shared and separate for cyclists, walkers and horses and some form of facilities for them including parking areas. The idea would be to have the area as a focal point for folks wishing to upskill and for schools cycling, community events, nature trails, history lessons, that sort of thing. Would be nice to have a waymarked loop over to CV, but we’ll see what happens.

As for existing trail network, if there’s a path, use it….

If it goes the way of CV, shame, if it’s successful and goes the way of GT/CyB, well we all know what to expect from FC…;-)

A report in the Kirkintilloch Herald the other week said that the woman who was the driving force behind the Kirkie skatepark (which is ‘amazeballs’ btw) has joined the organisation behind this to move the project forward. I’ve met her a couple of times around the skatepark, she knows her way around the various planning bodies involved, so its looking promising.

Photos on FB show some pretty extensive (arse clenching) northshore stuff has been built recently. Not sure if it’s official though. Probably official given that the old stuff got torn down

This is interesting, I was up there yesterday and didn’t see any trails and all the access roads are blocked with fallen trees. I’d love there to be a proper trail network up there but I do wonder if it’ll just become a mobbed nightmare 🙁 This happens with all the best areas it seems, they become mobbed maintenance problems, then either become useless or get commercialised.

Coffeeking- CV hasn’t really suffered from this although I accept its a bit more out of the way- but Lennox is still kinda out the way.
And to be fair, FC has spent a bit of money on the trails in the last couple of years.. shame the development group isn’t involved any more. Think it’s great when local(ish) groups are directly involved in these sort of things..

CV is too far away for a quick nip but not big and difficult enough to make it worth it for the hardcore few who’ll travel to GT etc. It’s like a family blue trail but too far away for families to bother going. Lennox forest usually has 10-15 people riding around it whatever day I’m up there and that’s without any real trails – if it’s easy and usable it’ll be mobbed by locals (rightly so).

CV could be so much more, I don’t think LF has the height needed for decent trails but I could be wrong.

That stuff really doesn’t float my boat. Too narrow and too high up, and since they’re usually the main features of the trail the rest is usually dull so if you can’t do it or don’t enjoy it you don’t enjoy any of it. No idea what the obsession with north shores stuff is these days, a good ground based trail can be far more fun and easier to put together.

Hi guys just noticed this thread. I’m on the committee and mostly run the online stuff for the project. Just letting you know that the project is still going strong. Jump onto our Facebook page to keep updated with what’s happening: Facebook.com/LennoxForest
