My o my what a nightmare!
Long story as short as possible!
2.2 2007 diesel, pushed two injectors out the engine ten days ago. Taken to local engine specialist, refitted, recoded, upgraded 🙄 injector clamp fitted.
    £150 all good.

Cue last Monday and van starts to bob up and down when at tickover, engine visibly shaking on its mountings. Take it back plug it in and it shows a fault with injector 1, so let’s get it swapped.
    £200 each and non reconditionable.
They have van all day Friday to replace one injector or so I thought. In that time they’ve took it out and put the old back, removed the egr cleaned and whatever else. Van still bobbing up and down!
Today had van back for several hours to mask the egr, still no joy!

They’ve washed their hands of it now as their computer is now saying two injectors and egr fault!

Anyone any idea and where to start. I’m ten minutes from derby.

I guess you are pressed for patience/time, but what do you mean by “pushed 2 injectors out of the engine 10 days ago”?

When was it last serviced and what was done to it (oil, air fuel filters etc). I don’t know the 2.2 very well (have a 2.0) is it chain or belt and when was that last sorted?

    Always been serviced. It’s chain.
It physically snapped the shitty little single bolt that was holding down the injector clamp. The injector clamp looking on plan is like a squashed x shape with a single bolt holding it in place. Ford has produced an injector clamp upgrade kit due to their failings but of course the **** didn’t let anyone know there was a problem or did a recall!
Never had any problems before the injectors decided to remove themselves!

Those engines are terrible, Ford should be ashamed they still make them.

That engine is bad for the timing chain jumping out, could explain the poor running. Could be the fuel pump is dying.

Im a ford tech in a main dealer, I have seen this bolt snap only once, that van had a new head and injectors as the injectors bouncing up and down smashed the mating surfaces, I have never heard of a repair kit, recall, tsb or fsa.
egr faults are very common, injectors go now an then, if your revs hunt at idle, or bob up and down then I would be looking at a pcm update. Now and then a dodgy imv valve will cause the fuel rail preasure release valve to operate, not likely for you as you have not complained of any other running faults

Timing chain faults seem a thing of the past now, not had one on the new puma engine, timng chain, tensioner and rockers are all different, tensioners failed more on old 2.4.

Pondy you clearly know your stuff. Yes the injectors had been giving it the bounce but not enough thankfully to damage the head. The new clamp is a genuine ford part and is listed as injector clamp upgrade kit? It’s definitely hunting when cold and only starts to give it the “low rider bounce” when it’s been run for a bit. Excuse my dimness but what’s a PCM update. Is that the coding for the injectors?

Who ever changed them would know if head, injectors were damaged as it will mushroom the copper fire washer so you cant remove. If there is an upgrade kit I dont know of it yet. Pcm is powertrain control module, basicaly a computer which runs all engine electronics. The software seems to go out of date often, updates consist of lots of new infomation and fixes for faults etc. These updates fix the stranges of faults. Pcm does contain the injector correction factor codes, if not coded will cause not start, diesel knock, black smoke etc
