can any recommend a good handlebar mount for use with MTE p7 flashlights.
i already use those 2fish things for my fenix p2d which work well but the much heavier P7s move&vibrate too much for my liking. would like something where i can adjust the angles and a good solid fitting.

I used an old cateye quick release mounting and a jubilee clamp :mrgreen:Looks a bit shoddy but works perfectly.

I used a Fishbock and a rubber O-ring as used on the Dinotte lights (I'm sure they'll have something similar in B&Q etc) – it made the P7 I had pretty stable

I've been using some butterfly hose clips to secure my torches,
two different sizes inter-connected,
and use a bit of inner tube with electrical tape to protect the bars and torch and to give a really snug fit,
its really quick to secure the torch and also tool less fitting 😀
and you can adjust the angle aswell,
and they have been super secure

Yeah, I use that approach on the cheap torch on my commuter but I wanted adjustability and removability on the mountain bike.

These are tesco torches but I'm using the same mount now with my P7.

Well, I'm particularly proud of this setup – pretty flash, not the cheapest, but works fantastically, and will also work with the helmet mount too….

You need:
– access to a lathe
– P7 torch
– exposure joystick mount with clip/helmet mount/both…

Machine the external diameter of the torch to about 25mm…

The rest is pretty self explanatory…

Works wonders, and I've got an additional 'cleat' that allows me to use my homebrew LED setup for 'proper' off-roading (with the P7 on the helmet).

I use on of these that I bought with the torch, they don't look much, but work really well.

Agree 100% with Innes … these work really well. The torch doesn't move in mine and I use them on 2 bikes on bone-rattling night rides.

+1 for Innes suggestion. Mune holds really well and I have adapted on to use on the helmet too. Ordered my second MTE P7 earlier.

can I just disagree and say we got one of Innes recommended mounts to test and one of the arms snapped off trying to do it up tight enough, not impressed as this was trying it out for the first time.

Swayndo, I'd totally recommend the twofish lockblock for a helmet mounting, decathlon apparently sell something similar cheap.

z1ppy … cheers … I already use a lockblock with a Fenix L2D on the lid, but wouldn't fancy it with the bigger, heavier P7.

That's the first time I've heard of the plastic mount failing BTW and at about £1 each …

Swayndo, it was noticable at first but fades & the light are that good it can be forgiven. As for the £1 mount yes, but whilst trying to fit it…annoying.

Twofish wobble too much and can't be aimed sideways

Jubilee clips look too horrid and permanent

Innes clamp only works on 25mm bars and can't be aimed sideways

old cateye + cable tie sounds ok and can be aimed sideways but 25mm only

Joystick mount looks OK but £18, butchering the torch to make it fit is nasty and also beyond the engineering facilities in my shed.

Phew that's made lots of friends then.

Swayndo, all I have done is cut the nut and bolt off and drilled 2 holes either side wide enough for cable ties and then simply threaded onto helmet. SIMPLES!

Re NikNak's link – I got one of those but it doesnt fit oversized bars. However a quick cut soon gets rid of the excess bar mount loop and then the rest can be cable tied on. Hasnt broken yet but doesnt allow the mount to be rotated or tweaked left / right (to counter bar sweep).

Looks almost identical. I don't have O/S bars, and fits fine on my regulars.
Coulda's right though, it's fixed, so there's no ability to point elsewhere.

I could live without the sideways aim as 2 lights gives a bit of sideways spread when mounted on each side but the lack of OS would be a problem.

Do you have a photo of the cable tie bodge coulda?

Not at all… In fact the bottom 2 in your pic look the same as mine and they definately do extend to oversized bars, no problem. Some older kit might give you hassle but any decent quality light from the last couple of years should work with 31.8 bars.

I went for that and it was seriously good…looks cheap and nasty, feels cheap and nasty but seems to be a much better design than the ones my mate got for his P7s – mine doesn't rattle and stays firm.

Or it did until a mate crashed his bike and burst it…I'm now waiting on a replacement arriving from DX.
