It's my 30th in a couple of weeks & to celebrate I have hired a venue in Nottingham called the Screen Room, it's the smallest cinema in the country with just 22 seats. I have invited friends & family and all I have to do is choose the films yo watch. I have the venue for 5 hours so can squeeze in 2 films with time for snacks. Choosing 2 films is prooving to be very difficult & I'm looking for inspiration.

    What would you choose?

Assuming there are going to be men and women, young and old there, I'd recommend a 2009 French film, The First Day of the Rest of Your Life – it's kind of about landmarks in life and is as funny as it is moving.

Thelma and Louise followed by a great comedy (not too classic, as everyone will have seen it as million times).

If kids are going to be there then a quality animation that adults can appreciate as well is a good option, so I would recommend:
    Up
    Ice Age
    Spirited Away
    My Neighbor Totoro
    The Incredibles
    Cars
    Monsters V Aliens
    First Tame Your Dragon

All the above I've seen and enjoyed very much, the last one is amazing, the quality of the animation is stunning, it's funny for all ages, and has one flight sequence that'll have you gripping the seat; I had to shut my eyes at one point 'cos my stomach started to turn over!

    Dog Soldiers
    Evil Dead I & II
    Pan's Labyrinth
    Zatoichi
    No Country for Old Men
    Aliens
    Bad Taste (gore fest)
    Wolf Creek (freaked me out)
    Inglorious Basterds
    Pulp Fiction
    Death proof
    Kill Bill I & II
Les triplettes de Belleville (cycling based animation)
    Amelie
    MicMacs
not that I've been thinking about it or anything!

You'll need films which will benefit from being on the big screen and with a proper sound system.

Some of you people are very weird indeed.

Assuming no kids, I'd say fight club and bladerunner. They're not really lady friendly though so if there are girls coming then you best ditch those two and go for In Bruges which is quite good and Wonderful Life.

Or do something like a mini Bannf Mtn film festival and track down lots of short films of various genres inc sport and stuff. Quite honestly 2 films back to back would have me asleep !

I'm surprised there are so many Blade Runner fans!

I'd go for something actiony/cool/kid-accessible first and then something very funny to pissed people (Life of Brian?) afterwards. I don't think you want anything too heavy or serious for a birthday party.

(BTW, "Breaking Away" is worth renting if you haven't seen it, but I wouldn't bother with full screen to all your mates).

    First, show Casablanca.
Then Rear Window or North By Northwest.

Bit of romance, followed by a bit of murder.
    Isn't that the usual order?
