Some good choices already, especially The Damned and Stooges – they both knew how to do a good intro.

I nominate Teenage Riot by Sonic Youth though.

    Listen to it here

I thought it might be Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth, but I discovered by accident last night that it's definitely 14 31 by Global Communication. I have the most wonderful memory of driving into Glastonbury 95 with 4 of my best mates and that coming on. It starts with the ticking of a grandfather clock, which is a most comfortable sound indeed 8)

    Indeed, wonderful track.

Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack. Still knocks me for six.

Not sure anything can beat this, though….

"When you're younger you can eat what you like, drink what you like, and still climb into your 26" waist trousers and zip them closed. Then you reach that age, 24-25, your muscles give up, they wave a little white flag, and without any warning at all you're suddenly a fat bastard"
