went out today for a 15 mile pootle on the canal network round here.
5 miles from the end i thought i was gonna shake a seven, had to phone my good lady to come and rescue me.
sometimes life is shyte innit?

Was ok on a local xc loop via freeride park, smashed my back wheel hooking a big gap. Was 8 miles from home, started walking but ended up calling for rescue, link to a pick of the wheel......

I got a flat, called my mate. He wasn't happy as I told him the wrong place so he cycled about 13 miles out of his way to bring me a new tyre.
When we were cycling home in the dark (he wasn't happy about this either) he had a crash, and totally knackered his brakes! I think he's gonna sell 'em to some poor punter now!

made the mistake of having an icecream mid late winter ride once, it seemed quite warm and the sun was out. big mistake. Once i set of again my core temp plummeted and no matter how hard I worked on the bike I just couldn't get warm again, never had the shivers so bad. Had to call the mrs for assistance

yep, set off from my house, got all of 200yards, foot got stuck in spd fell off and dislocated my shoulder. Had to get a passer by to get my phone out of my pocket and ring the mrs for me

Had to get a helicopter once when a friend fell and broke her leg in seven different places, when out riding in the Highlands.

I broke my ankle on the Quantocks one evening (only about 4 miles from home), I had to hop until I got a phone signal (only a hundred yards or so) and then I phoned my son to come and get me and take me to hospital.

I crashed when turning a corner on my commuter after a long, gentle downhill slope. Took all the skin off my forearm and my knee. In what I think was shock, I phone my wife to come and pick me up.
A few years later, I was on a trail and got a pinch flat. I was able to patch one hole, but could not for the life of me find the second. As it was getting very cold, I had to call home.
Not dramatic, but it doesn't make me very popular at home.

Once sank a speedboat on the way back to the mainland from the Orkneys and had to be pulled out by the local lifeboat crew,does that count as being rescued?

yep my hubby rescued me once i was suddenly caught in a clash of thunder and bolt lightening.. a riverbed of water followed me down hill ...yikes...thats the fastest downhill i had cycled in my entire life....

Yeah, I've had to get the wife out a couple of times when I've had catastrophic failures a long way from home. She's not happy if it's less than twenty miles though.

Many years ago, before mobile phones, me and a couple of mates had to take a small boat (with outboard) back to Huntingdon from St Neots, on the river. We went the wrong way (no signs on rivers) towards Bedford. Lots of worried parents, can't remember how we got rescued but all very embarrassing.

Mrs Taxi has picked me up loads of times with a broken bike or body.

Hi Kennyp, I had forgot about that ! That was some day out.
I played a significant part in that recsue, that of the team who went down the hill and opened all the deer fence gates for the mountain rescue, took first shower so the water would be hot again for you all when you got back and then waited in the pub for news. Bet you were glad we were there...

this morning
after last nights bivi i left the others and headed for a train station. when i got there - no train info. ticket machine wouldn't take my card. big sign saying 'penalty fair route' must have a ticket blah blah.
phoned the missus. "I don't know whether i'm phoning to moan or ask for a lift" "i'll come get you then"

Some of these puncture storys make me laugh! I was 14 with my mate and we went for a road cycle round the isle of wight on our £2-300 mtbs, we had cycled about 25miles round the coast to ventnor the futhest possible point from cowes and BANG my mate gets a puncture.
Being 14 the puncture repair kit we had is completly inadequate we spend the next 8-10 hours pushing the busted bikes the 16miles back to cowes to catch the ferry back to the mainland. Our parents "well you got yourself into that situation you can get yourself out of it" some of you guys who get a few to many punctures need to mtfu! and learn your lessons!
Also had the midlands air abulance out for a mate who took all the skin off his knee cap so you could see the knee cap.

I broke my hip.
I think I was in shock as when I called my wife from the st johns ambulance 4x4 I was rescued with I told her i'd got a dead leg but as soon as I got my breath back I'd make my way home.

wife often picks me up from work if I've had a mechanical or its really windy or she's in the area. Been rescued by a life boat once though...
