I’m looking to relocate to the North West, it’s a girl before you ask.

Having trawled the top job-search websites on Google and cross-referenced what appear to be the same adverts for different jobs in different locations, often by a different agent, I’m a little perturbed and looking for direction.

I’m looking for a Project Engineer / Project Manager role, I currently work for a large international who manufacture what can only be described a very very large metal boxes. I have a background in construction and am qualified as an Architect (but am not looking to get back).

I’d appreciate it if locals could send some company names my way that I can put on a ‘frequently visited website’ list perhaps some idea of strategy, it seems like a long time since I had to do this.

I work with one of the subsidiaries of these guys. They have been steadily expanding over the last few years & they are looking for good people. I know them through their nuclear arm who I believe are also recruiting.

Care to elaborate on ‘large metal boxes’ ? Might give me a clue on your background and where to point you to. Unless you’re talking in code for some secret squirrel stuff? 😉

The ends.co.uk directory might be useful to short list companies who have offices in the NW. But companies which come to mind are the likes of Atkins, Mott macdonald, Jacobs etc. I’m in the NW working in the environmental engineering industry if I can be any more help. These engineering firms do employ project managers.

This company don’t make large metal boxes but they make a lot of very large constructions and they are based in the North West. Actually, they own quite a lot of it.

Bae in barrow were looking for people working on the subs. There’s also some work in bae warton by Preston. You’ve also got Airbus broughton by Chester. These are mostly design jobs, but I know there’s a requirement as I’m getting a couple of phone calls a week about project/design manager jobs. Mostly contract work, but don’t let that put you off. I’ve done both contract and permy, contractings the way forward!

Nobody’s mentioned BAE Systems. It’s the only world-class firm we have in Lancashire.

Siemens too, head office in didsbury

Bentley Motors in Crewe, Jaguar Land Rover in Liverpool, Airbus Chester, BAE Systems in Blackburn & Preston or Barrow, Rolls Royce Aero in Barnoldswick, MBDA in Bolton to name a few.

Have a look at Morson Group & Assystem they recruit contractors & Staff for the Aero stuff. Fircroft for Bentley, JLR I think mostly do their own.

You’ve also got a large nuclear design centre in Warrington, plus Hyde Group and CAV, both design and manufacture aerospace components in Manchester

Cobham Defence Communications Ltd in Blackburn, but maybe not in your line of expertise.
