Ebay experts - how much to post this?

Hi

Ive just missed out on one of clicky-these-clicky because I couldnt decide if the postage was a mickey take or not

As you can see its a big metal lump, to be fair my seller (not this add) said collection only but when I asked for a quote to post came up with 40 quid.

This was 20 quid for a courier (I know Paypal do Parcelforce for 11.99 which they disputed due to size) and 20 quid for bubble wrap and packaging

I still think they couldnt be arsed to post it which is really where the figure came from but any comments welcome for when its relisted!!

I think £40 is a bit excessive but then if you don't want to post it....
As for the actual cost it probably wouldn't be down to the weight but the size, so although that heavy it would be assumed it was based on the size, i've been stug a few times on this, where I've calculated the shipping based on the weight but not the size.

theft! i posted a full suss frame a few weeks back using my employers courier ukmail and it cost £6 that's six pounds!, i'm guessing that they just wanted to put you off as they didn't want to post.

Just ignore what the postage cost is & add it to sale price

If I was to sell you a bling widget for £100 with £10 postage or £60 with £50 postage, you're just paying the same
No need for the hand-wringing over what it says postage is, on it's own, it's irrelevant
Simple question to ask yourself - is it worth the total cost to get it to you?

I sold the steel bulkhead from my van a couple of months ago on ebay, (probably a similar size to the dog guard when boxed)
I tryed loads of companies and the cost of large items is all down to the dimensions of the parcel, the cheapest one I could find was around £30 add to that a few quid for wrapping materials and hassle and £40 sounds about right!
As uplink said factor the postage into the final price and decide if it's worth that to you.

Yes, but its wrong. The seller is doing it to avoid fee's, but the buyer is then at a disadvantage in a dispute as the postage wouldn't be refunded.

In this case, its a litte expensive but if I really didn't want to post something, I would jack the price up to reflect this. I also think the size would make it difficult to post the dog guard. Probably worth walking into Fords and finding out what the 'new' price is.

no - you're wrong, the original P&P must be refunded

as for avoiding Ebay fees? - I'm struggling to give a s**t on that one

I used http://www.parcelmonkey.com who use citylink to pick up and delivery..stick the measurements in. Its gonna be 7 quid or so for next day delivery...DO not use parcel2go as I've lost 3 parcels with them and they scam you out of compensation as well as a long long list of stuff they dont cover!

The only thing that should bother you or buyer is final price, if anyone has a problem with that they won’t buy simple. I don’t mind if someone is trying to pay less money on fees, why would you care pending you receive your target price. Do what you think is beneficial for you.

This sort of thing really pisses me off. The bloke has said local collection only. He obviously doesn't want to post. It is his choice. Then you come along and moan because he is charging a (his words) "prohibitive" cost for posting. He doesn't want the hassle of wrapping and packing so suck it up and go find another who will post.
