For something more traditional, Jackson's on the Royal mile is pretty good, but not cheap. Edinburgh is my favourite city, beautiful, you should have a great time, although Princes street was full of road works a couple of weeks ago. Monster mash is great for a big stodgy lunch.

A good curry can be had in The Guru not 5 mins from where you are staying-Dundee Terrace.
i used to live 2 doors down from that

Princes street was full of road works a couple of weeks ago.
Aye the tram works! (Edinburgh's second folly).

I eat out a bit - always looking for value and nice/interesting food rather than glitz.
Current favourites are the Dogs (not done Dogs Amore) on Hanover St - lovely hearty rustic food at decent prices & v. casual, and Roseleaf in Leith - similar.

Ben Hurr - not sure if its still there
Not sure if 'Tom's' Italian restautant at the top of the Grassmarket is still there but enjoyed several nice meals in it. Not actually sure of the name of the restaurant!
