I have a front wheel with a DT Swiss Skewer.
I find these to be a bit of a PITA to be honest as the mechanism keeps seizing up and it seems to bind the wheel if done up too tight.
There are no springs or anything so not sure if something is missing so was wondering if I could just take the skewer out and repace it with a normal QR?
If not what else needs to be done-its a Specialized Stout hub if it makes a difference.

Have you got a specialized bike? It sounds as though you do if you have a stout hub. I think you’ll find that the DT Swiss skewer that comes with the bike is a through bolt skewer and you won’t be able to replace it with a standard one.

the wheels are off a Specialized originally but now on a Giant,
Looking at various pics that would appear to be the one.
Any reason why it would cause the wheel to bind?
The forks are Fox TALAS 125mm

Possibly pitted bearings? They are designed to be stiffer by being done up tight so I shouldn’t have thought that would cause a problem.

Specialized Stout hub – mine failed after about a year and got some proII’s instead 🙂

I believe you should be able to change the bearings on a Stout hub, so now reason to move to Pro II due to that.. I did it on my 20mm c’dale wheel, that my LBS had written off as un-repairable.

Anyways I bought a Specialised Stout “9mm Bolt Thru QR” (same as the superstar one) for my Pro II, works a treat, throughly recommend moving over to one.
