If so, what do you use and why?
I couldn’t get to Google at work this morning so had to try a couple of others. Could only think of Yahoo and Excite, and they were rubbish.

Is there ever a reason not to use Google?

I’ve never found another search engine that comes close to it. Maye that’s just because I’m so used to it.

Bing isn’t too bad but google seems to be the best. Google has gone a bit downhill recently by trying to be too clever (eg searching for words like the one you want rather than the actual word) but I still use it all the time.

Oh, and not quite a search engine (they call it a “Knowledge engine”), but similar, and I use it a lot..

There are other search engines? 😯

Been using Google almost since they started (so circa 1996) and can’t see it changing.

Just started using http://duckduckgo.com/ and https://ixquick.com/ both are Privacy friendly and both allow you to set the UK for relevant results.

I used to use Dogpile a lot back in pre-Google days. It was an aggregator for all the other engines (Lycos, Alta Vista, Yahoo et al) and worked well.

Last I looked it was Just Another Search Engine, which is a bit sad. Dunno if it’s still going even.

Google is getting bad, Bing is bringing up better results most times. 😯

    +1 for DuckDuckGo

I got fed up with google. I like to search something, then refine my results by searching again based on what I see from the original search. This isn’t possible with google’s auto-fill-search thing. You can turn it off, but I use multiple computers and don’t want to have to sign in to google whenever I want to search.

Fed up with my results being tailored to what it thinks I want them to be, when I use the internet to learn more than to fester my original viewpoints.

Fed up with it assuming I want things like ‘social search’ involving social network posts from people I don’t know in my searches, enabling them by default.

Fed up with it telling me to use Chrome when I use Firefox.

Dissapointed that hundreds of talented software engineers were duped into working for the world’s largest advertising broker.

The company seems determined to be the one-stop-place for everything on the internet. See also: Early 00’s AOL

I could go on and on…

I just deleted my search history and paused the recording from Google.. Seems a sensible thing to do as it’ll preserve it from bias.
