Yep, looks nasty.
You're not on Warfarin are you ? ....... although I once had the most spectacular bruising on one of my legs (as the result of a 3 ton tractor falling on it) which had all the beautiful hues of a stunning tropical sunset, I haven't seen bruising like yours, other than on people taking Warfarin.

Anybody care to pontificate on the effect of bar ends on such an incident. Seems to me that the load would be spread over a larger area, so less damage done ?

He's just told me how he did it.
Steep climb... stood up... top of the pedal stroke... front wheel hit something and washed out (night ride so he couldn't see what)... CRUNCH.

I'd be keeping an eye on that, it looks like it's swelling more - that can't be good? Internal bleeding? And I read something somewhere (lol, fat lot of good that is) that very large bruises can cause serious concern due to stressing your kidneys? Really does look sore, hope it improves rapidly!
