was cleaning my cannondale prophet the other day and noticed a dent just above the bottom bracket underneath, looks like a lose rock has hit it, its about thumb size but no signs of cracks just a few scratches , will it be ok or is it a serious issue?

Dent in my frame?

First of all well done! Seriously you've obviously been canning it. It's quite normal and won't be a problem. I managed to do the same thing to my DH bike and actually dented the weld itself on the BB. I spoke with the manufacturer (actually the owner of the company!) and he said it would be fine. Hope that puts your mind at rest.

I'm sure the bike will be fine. My bike was attacked by a stray rock 3 years ago which resulted in an almost identical (thumb print sized dint just above BB) damage. I also was a little concerned but contacted the manufacturer, sent photos and they said there's nothing to worry about. Worry over.

Personally there are usually two things that go through my mind when this happens. The first is 'awesome potential excuse for a new frame' and the second is a deep sense of satisfaction that I'm actually using it for what it was designed for :o)
I was never more excited than when I cracked the main triangle on the 2005 Spesh Enduro especially as Spesh said that they didn't have a single example of that ever happening before.
Of course most likely it was just due to my mass rather than my gnarr factor!

I've done that on a couple of bikes and on one frame more than once, didn't even consider it could be a problem. The frames still not snapped 10 years later.

probably wont be able to get a new frame out of it as it was my fault lol

I am not alone in loving the noise of rocks bouncing off my down tube then?
Gives real satisfaction that you are using the bike for what it was build for.
