    (August, FWIW)

We won’t be in it that much so posh would be a total waste (flying visit for about 3 totally out&about tourist days) but location may be important I guess

Anybody got any great tips ?

(… and if you were there for that short a time with your wife & teenage daughters, what would you definitely want to do ?)

Just booked Crowne Plaza on Times Square about 10 mins ago.

King room with Times Square view was $225/night

At least three people will be along soon to tell you this isn’t the “real” NYC and you’re wasting your time staying on Times Square…

Really liked the Conrad Hilton in Battery Park.
Ellen Stardust Diner for dinner one evening.

Have used this place for many years, and always good.

Nothing big or glamorous, but excellent location, and good service.

Stumbling distance from both John’s Pizza and Virgil’s. Which is a good thing.

jimdubleyou – probably right, but we had different plans which are now blighted by wifey needing a new knee a week after we go.

Decided a day and a half in NYC is all we’ll manage, so changed hotels to manage that – then we’re off with a car for a bit into the surrounding area

Pod 51–best location for the money. Have stayed there several times, always in a ‘queen pod’ which is small but clean and modern with everything you need. They do a ‘studio pod’ which sleeps 4.

Not particularly cheap but great location, fantastic public spaces and oodles of history – Waldorf Astoria on Park Avenue between 49th & 50th Street. Guest rooms could do with modernising

We stayed here a couple of years ago and would recommend it. The staff were really friendly. It’s on 46th street near the theatre district…
