I’ve got the parents down this weekend so looking to drive somewhere for the day on Saturday. Somewhere that’s around a 2hours-ish drive.

So far thoughts have included Bath (which I’ve been to several times) and Stratford-Upon-Avon; but I’ve heard that it’s a bit over-hyped there (and we don’t really have much interest in Shakespeare beyond catching sight of his house).

    Let’s have your suggestions…

Depends what you want to do? If you want some nice walks and pretty coffee shops, go to Marlow, walk along the river, then jump back into car and 15 minute drive to Turville to go here for lunch http://www.thebullandbutcher.com/ and more nice walks around there. If you want to go to Turville pub pre book though.

My daughter lives in Highbury. From my experience a 2 hour drive from there on a Saturday would get us as far as Finchley.

Where are your parents coming from? Will they really want to travel to London, and then spend another 2 hours travelling?

You could also do Richmond / Richmond park. Have Lunch by the River then walk up Richmond hill to take in the view over Surrey, then walk over into the park to take in the view over the city.

Isn’t there some jubilee shenanigins going on in Windsor this weekend?

    Edit – yep – http://www.windsor.gov.uk/latest-news/2012/5/9/diamond-jubilee-armed-forces-parade-and-muster-in-windsor-a158

Either go early if they’re into the whole royal thing, or stay well away if not.

    Go out somewhere in London.

I work in London so travel on the train/tube everyday, and going out in London is usually the bottom of the list for weekend activities.

But family who visit often quite like the idea of going out in London.
