I think my tyres on my Boardman team carbon are worn out as I get a puncture every other ride at present! The rear has a distinctive 'flat' and both have grooves, scores, and dents in them. The last puncture on the rear was a very sharp tiny flint; something i would hope most tyres would resist a puncture on.

I did buy some 'Gators' for my crosser (singlespeed)which was going to be my 'commuter 'but they punctured after one ride - so much for puncture resistance!

Can someone therefore recommend me some new tyres for my boardman? I want some sort of puncture resistance. The bike is mainly going to be used for day rides and sportive etc...

Continental GP4000's work for for me, fast rolling, grip in the wet and good puncture resitance

No difference between GP4000 and GP4000s except for the logos. Both are black chilli compound (in the folding variety that is).

That said, in my limited experience of road tyres for long day rides, the GP4000s are great, feel very fast and have never punctured on me.

Get some with kevlar belts in the carcass. Worked very well for me preventing punctures.

Yep, just the silver writing.
When the 4000s was 1st released it was the only 4000 to have the Black Chilli compound, now they all have it (as long as its a black compound folder).

ive found Schwalbe duranos super strong. Never had an issue with conti gatorskins thou

I had a set of Gatorskins and punctured 3 times on the same ride. The rubber is too soft and a piece of glass got trapped in the rubber and was puncturing the tube.

I have a Conti Grand Prix with PoyX breaker and black chilli compound, lighter and imo much better than the Gatorskins. I had them over a year now and never punctured, weight is reasonable at around 240-270g. They cost around £20 each if You shop around.

Also never had a puncture with Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase tyre, dual compound, hard on the middle and soft on sides for cornering. Reasonably light for puncture resistance.

Spesh Armadillo again very very puncture resistant but probably the heaviest tyre of the 3.

Most tyres will struggle to stop a shard of glass and not checking the tyre the first time is just a school boy error not a fault with the rubber compound.

I had this on some knobblies. I DID check the tyre (I always do) and after the third time I got suspicious - left the valve in place, found the puncture and then really scrutinised the tyre at the exact spot of the puncture. There was a shard of mica from the granite gravel stuck in the tyre but not all the way through UNTIL the tyre took weight and flexed.. then it poked out. Impossible to find unless you really squished the tyre hard whilst looking.

Schwalbe marathon plus for the hybrid/tourer/tandem. Schwalbe Durano plus for the fixed road bike/commuter. Something nicer for the bling bike, but I can suffer for my fashion . The "plus" refers to the blue puncture guard. I haven't carried a spare tube on the tandem since fitting a year ago!

Marathons - not light
Duranos - not cheap, but the 23C weighed in at about 340g.

The Swede I checked the tyre briefly after the first puncture, a bit better after the second puncture but as molgrips said there was nothing after the inspection of the outside, it went so deep inside the cut that I had to take the tyre off, put it inside out, see where the kevlar belt had something poking out from the inside and then I located the piece of glass and had to use a small screwdriver from my multitool to get it out.

I now have used a Spesh Armadillo and Conti GP Poly X combo and did not puncture in the last year or so.

v flinty where I live

conti gatorskins didn't last

spesh armadillo - seem utterly bombproof as mieszko says (but bit heavy I suppose)

maxxis refuse (as played & recommended by carpe diem above) - lighter, more supple and really not bad IME. Not punctured yet & only 2 cuts in maybe 300 miles (I was regularly puncturing both contis by that distance)

I tried some wtb solano thing with "aramid protection" - very poor, on flinty roads at least
