I have 1000 to spend to replace a 2007 allez comp. Can anyone please suggest anything that might be a bit more forgiving over a 16 mile each way London commute? I have some newish RS30 wheels I could swap over to the new bike if appropriate.

I just saw the new Allez comp on Evans cycles for £960, looks to be a bargain. If you want something more comfy, maybe look at a cross bike? I have kinesis 5T and was regularly doing 10+miles as a commute on it. Dodgy brakes though….

Check out the whyte road bikes with disks, have a Suffolk and done over 1200 miles commuting, great bike and rim durability is not an issue as no rim brakes, not to mention great braking in the wet and a well designed bike.

If you are looking at Evans, check out the Pinnacle Arkose range. bloody brilliant.

Whatever it is, if you want “more forgiving”, go for a “sportive” frame…
