Is the crank extractor for ISIS fittings different for other BB types.
I have a Crank extractor but having major problems with my ISIS crank/BB.

    Any advice appreciated

    thanks

yes different – as the axle diameter is larger on the ISIS (and shimano octalink) compared with square taper.

ignore me. I was talking about the bb extractor rather thank crank extractor!

you’re right CP – he means the crank extractor.

You can bodge a SQTaper extractor with a 5p piece as a push plate.

… well apparently, if you don’t have the correct ‘top hat’ – but when we tried it after my 3 ride old ISIS BB seized, it just mashed up the 5p pieces, even when two were placed back to back.

i found my old sq taper extractor pushy bit fits inside the bolt hole in teh isis bb axle. the threads on hte cranks are hte same as the sq taper crank threads so the outer part of the extractor tool fits ok.

i found a 5p fits perfectly inside the isis crank arm over the axle hole to allow the extractor to do its job properly.

5p`s are hopeless as money but have loads of other little helpful uses that make up for them being a pain in the arse to have in your wallet.

5p does work but ends up in a nice dome shape

I have a bolt with the right diameter head that sorts this problem perfectly.

Fit self-extracting bolts would be my main recommendation thoguh.

Don’t use ISIS would be my recommendation 😉
