   Hi all,

   Am off to the Cotswolds on Friday for a week; staying in between Pitchcombe and Painswick.

   Is it likely to be a slopfest, or is there places nearby that are rockier or dry out better than others? Maps and YouTube make Painswick Beacon look a good bet?

   Much in Standish Woods?

   Anywhere else worth checking out?

   The cots has the reputation for the most sticky mud in Britain.
   The few winter rides I've had did nothing to challenge that reputation.

   Stay away from Cranham is the first obvious shout and Painswick beacon is a public golf course so you just need to stay on the bridleways or golfers will get funny with you. Usless you know all of the little trails in the trees around the course.
   Standish woods is very good shout for a few hours of messing around.

   Its a mudfest

   Lots of horses dont help either. Some rocky bits, but not enough for a whole ride.

   Thanks all. I did hear about the Cotswolds mud, but then you haven't seen the Essex clay.

   Was reading about Cranham. Will stay clear.

   I'm only a mile or so from Standish - that sounds perfect for getting a cheeky couple of hours in before everyone gets up.

   It was lovely and rock solid and snowy up lecky for 2 hours on saturday
   Then the drizzle returned
   Thank you winter 2011. Now to wait another year.

   Yes Saturday Morin was excellent Lecky/Upper Coberley/Colesborne/Elkstone/Birdlip/Lecky, rock hard wonderfull clean bike amazing now YUK.

   Slight hijack - I've never ridden at Leckhampton, but have done plenty of Cotswold rides, mainly courtesy of the Vertebrae publishing book.

   Is the Lecky area mainly fairly mild DH runs with short climbs / pushes back up, or is it possible to put together a longer ride and take the area in?

   I was planning on riding near Birdlip on sunday, but was put off by the slight thaw and general moistness.

    If you're riding near Birdlip it's perfectly possible to link in to Leckhampton. Just take the bridleway up past the Cotswold Hills golf course, brings youout at the back of Leckhapmton Hill. Happy to show you around sometime, don't know the DH stuff but know a fair bit of the other stuff.

    If you're riding Sunday you're welcome to join Da Massiv in Bisley. Might be a bit muddy, but not too bad (probably...)
