what part of it do you want to quote? and who to?

every child under 1m35 needs one, simple!

Do you mean as in ‘section x of the y Act’?

    thegreatape Yes just like that!

The bit I want to quote is
“The law says that all children up to 135cm tall (around 4’5″), or the age of 12, whichever comes first, in the front or rear seats in cars, vans and other goods vehicles must travel in the correct child restraint for their weight with very few exceptions.”

To a solicitor if that makes any difference.

would have thought a solicitor would already be aware of it (and be able to quote it better than us).

At a glance, this statutary instrument appears to be what you’re looking for.

Actually, stratch that – on closer inspection that’s just listing the changes. ‘Tis a start, though…

This looks to be what the above amendments apply to, so it should be simple enough to construct the new rules. Annoyly, I haven’t been able to find an ‘as-amended’ version.

Ok. Struggling so far, this one’s a bit of a bugger to find. Got the 1993 ones but it’s not them. Stand by.

You would have thought that. The solicitor in question clearly is not aware.

As far as I can see it is

The Motor Vehicles (Wearing of Seat Belts) (Amendment) Regulations 2006

It looks to me as though these regulations are a statutory instrument which are used to amend an earlier law/act, rather than a totally new law.

    Thank you thegreatape 🙂

    I just said this:

I refer you to “Statutory Instrument 2006 No. 2213
The Motor Vehicles (Wearing of Seat Belts by Children in Front Seats) (Amendment) Regulations 2006”

    No bother.

Out of interest, why are you having to argue about it with a solicitor?

My ex is adamant I am not allowed to put my son in the front seat of a car (with suitable child seat) and has instructed a solicitor to inform me it could affect my access to him.

I should have read PhilO’s post and saved myself 10 minutes!

How old is he and what sort of seat?

    All seems pretty clear here

Front seat is fine so long as the child seat isn’t rear facing.

The only time it is illegal to have him in the front is if he is in a rear facing seat and there is an active front al airbag.

He is 5 and has a full booster seat.

    Then your ex is wrong.
