I’m in need of a car that will be cheap on fuel/tax/maintenance for a 70 mile daily commute mostly on Motorways.

It’s a second car so cheap as poss and I am completely uninterested in looks or “prestige” cheap is what matters. My current shortlist is an Audi A2 as pence per mile it seems to be winning but any suggestions are welcome. 3k max I reckon maybe 3500 at a push.

    Ford Focus for £1000

Mine was brilliant, was the older (and more reliable Tddi van engines)

Light & diesel then for max mpg.
I hate them, but Saxo/106/206, polo, lupo, corsa, fiesta (I think the 1.4 TDCI is a chain driven cam) etc
    OR
A2 would be my choice, but they are a bit more to buy.

    had a 1.5 dci clio.

    £20 tax/ year
    low insurance
and up to 70mpg. 65 average. 50 if you gunned it round town.

sold it for £3k a year ago.

    🙂
