  • Carbon Post in Carbon Frame, do I need to use Carbon Paste?

If using a carbon post in a carbon frame should I use carbon paste or is that just for use in an aluminium frame?

If yes, any suggestions for paste?

    Thanks.

Yeah carbon paste in the frame stops it binding and siezing in also it has granuals that create extra friction so less clamping force is needed to hold the post in.

As above it’s good practice, but I’ve been using carbon posts in carbon frames for 12 years, 99% of the time never using carbon assembly paste and often not moving the seatpost for years at a time, and never had a problem.

Ahem. I used ordinary grease on mine – is it going to kill me?

what if you are a saddle dropper, carbon gunk or don’t carbon gunk?

I presume (and do) the latter

Probaly better not to drop the seatpost as the stress caused in mutiple places can cause failure and carbon shards in the rear could hurt

sorry shorty but this sounds like made up science to me*.

besides saddle is dropped to get it out of the way so don’t spend much time sitting on it.

*no as it happens, I’m not a structural engineer, how did you know?

If you got it, use it, if not, then not really much loss 🙂

If you don’t have paste, spit in the seat tube. When spit comes into contact with carbon fibre is stays moist indefinitely.

it’s friction paste so it doesn’t slip, it’s not some sort of anti-seize thing.

    What lube for carbon shards?
