To replace my ageing Scott spark, used most weekends in the lakes. The scalpel doesn’t have any rear pivots, will it just snap after a couple of years?

Anyone got one? Would I get 5 years out of it? Saw one in wheelbase and it looked simply epic. Lefty, SLr’s etc.

Rider weight about 90 kg if it matters 🙂

I’ve got a 26er from 2002. Still going strong – though not used much in last couple of years. I weigh 95kg. Just make sure the carbon parts well wrapped with something – chain guard protector of some decription

Had an old one like bobgarrod that did stirling service, nae bother at 100kg. Surprisingly comfy – did some hefty rides in the highlands on it. Obv it’s a bit of a handful on the descents, but that just adds to the fun.
The old ones really did have no pivots – softtail design with the shock behind the seattube, relied on chainstay flex. The new ones have changed quite a bit, with the pivot by the bb that must take out a lot of the flex.
