Is there any reason if I buy two Juicy Carbon rear brakes that I couldn't shorten one hose and use it as front? Are the levers ambidextrous [if that's the right word…]?

    Any other pitfalls…

    Cheers,

You'll need a different adapter or disk. A 160mm on the back would be a 180mm on the front.

Cheers – really useful. Is that because of the caliper or the adaptor?

    Calipers and levers are identical.

Nice one – that's all I need to know.

    Thanks to you both:-)

The levers come MOTO style anyway so the rear will be the right way round as a front, but its easy to flip the pad contact dial round for use on the other side of the bars.

Cheers, I've ordered a pair from Merlin at £65 each as I was looking for something reasonably light and white too! Not messed with hydraulics much before so good chance to learn about shortening hoses and bleeding etc

The information given here has been really helpful – so thanks again. I'll try and post some pics etc as I go in case anyone comes up with the same daft idea in future.
