  • Bye-bye JoblessTrackWorld….. Hello LBS :o)

Having been made redundant from the building industry at the end of December I decided that this was my opportunity to do something I WANTED to do. I’ve always loved taking things to bits and repairing them, and I’ve said for a long time that I’m not sure weather I prefer riding bikes or fixing them, and I’d known for years that this was what I’d do if I ever got the chance…..
So, I set about the task of visiting 25-30 bike shops and asking for jobs, leaving CVs, and applying for EVERY single job that came up within a 30 mile road radius of home.
I also took on servicing work for friends as a means of learning more (which I did) and self funded my Cytech 2 qualification, (which I loved doing)

And today it paid off, as I signed of the dotted line for a job at The Bike Company in Staines. 🙂 (they have another branch in Windsor)
To be honest I couldn’t wish for a nicer bunch of people to work with, too. I start next Tuesday.

And also, today, I had a random phone call from Andy at The Purple Bike Shed looking for an occasional freelance mechanic.
It never rains but it pours! 🙂

Ask me again in a year if I made the right decision, OK? But right now I’ve got this massive cheesy grin. 😀

Congratulations-I know the feeling as I started at one of my new local LBS’s last week after a year out of the trade.
Still self employed as well, but nice to top things up when it’s quiet.
Great business to be in, even if the money isn’t the best

    Good stuff.

I quite enjoyed my time working in a bike shop. Get to know the reps if you can…they’re always good for extra special deals, especially on old stock (i got the last Demo 9 Spesh had left and got a cracking deal on it) or if they have something new to push (our Sram rep gave us a massive discount on some X0 stuff when it first came out).

Sadly it’s a bit too far for that, but I’ll probably get a road bike at some point… **shock-horror**

Congrats PP, fair play for making a big change in life. How was the cytech course? I’m thinking of doing it myself, what level did you do?
