Having been made redundant from the building industry at the end of December I decided that this was my opportunity to do something I WANTED to do. I’ve always loved taking things to bits and repairing them, and I’ve said for a long time that I’m not sure weather I prefer riding bikes or fixing them, and I’d known for years that this was what I’d do if I ever got the chance…..
So, I set about the task of visiting 25-30 bike shops and asking for jobs, leaving CVs, and applying for EVERY single job that came up within a 30 mile road radius of home.
I also took on servicing work for friends as a means of learning more (which I did) and self funded my Cytech 2 qualification, (which I loved doing)
And today it paid off, as I signed of the dotted line for a job at The Bike Company in Staines. 🙂 (they have another branch in Windsor)
To be honest I couldn’t wish for a nicer bunch of people to work with, too. I start next Tuesday.
And also, today, I had a random phone call from Andy at The Purple Bike Shed looking for an occasional freelance mechanic.
It never rains but it pours! 🙂
Ask me again in a year if I made the right decision, OK? But right now I’ve got this massive cheesy grin. 😀
