I’ve just bought a bike with Jones cut loop bars, and am weighing up options for brakes. I need a brake with a thin clamp so I can attach the brake as close as possible to the join but forward of it.

    What are the masses running?

why do you want them mounted in front? Sorry I know that doesn’t answer your question

I know that’s how you are “supposed” to run them but I never have. I can’t see the point in having foot long grips and the equivalent of tiddly bars when covering the brakes.

I run mine with XT levers and I know what you mean by I’ve not found it an issue. I have been thinking of Shimano trekking levers? with longer blades as a potential option.

    avid levers.

They are already Avid’s on there Tony. BB7’s.

AlasdairMc – I never had any issues with these brakes before, but I do live on the flat lands

I’ve not got on with Avids in the past, although they were BB5s – I had to swap a pair of Shimano brakes on for the weekend so just looking at what options are out there. I may yet go back to the Avids though…
