What's all this "that party", not "my party" stuff?

All excited about "his" mandate and "him" trying to deliver on it.

Brexit, vaccines, Ukraine... (all nonsense, but there's the claim for a legacy).

It’s associated with VONC mainly because they tend to happen to governments with very slim majorities or minority governments, where there is no immediate prospect of anyone winning another one.

Practically there isn't in the case of the cons. The Labour Party could, in a similar position, lose, have the deputy leader assume the reigns and form a new government tomorrow, or a coalition could be formed etc.
The difficulty is the structure of the cons. party means there is no alternative member waiting to take up the position.
So someone else would need to put them forward.

Now I want to know what his close person security team have seen... "the one team that doesn't leak".

"Our future together is golden".... sunlit uplands... keep waiting... they'll come... thanks to me.

Awful speech. The only thing he cared about was how wonderful he was. Received to see the back of the bell-end.

IMO the opposition parties are just going to screw things up as well.

p/s: in such short duration of 5 years, UK had 2 PMs ... I feel for the Business sector

Why does Boris think he was elected by the British people? He isn’t elected PM by anyone but the party

The Queen has the Royal Prerogative to appoint anyone put forward by the party grandees as an interim leader.

Be happy about one of those drums, if he bangs the "got Brexit done" one long enough and hard enough there's a good chancea lot of the electorate will believe it, that means the next tory leader won't need to be a rabid brexiteer but rather someone who is capable of delivering (or seeming to) other policies which will appeal in the "red wall" seats especially if they're going to hold a majority next time round.

Daft as it sounds Brexit being done is possibly the best legacy Boris could have in terms of us ending up with a moderate government for the next few years.

Had to switch it off because it was making me nauseous, but then switched on again, just hoping he might say something useful. But no.

WTF is "them's the breaks"?

Place your bets. There's MPs, and the members... they get a say way before the general electorate. It'll be a "real" Brexiter, with no economic policy beyond "sensible tax cuts".

And now the summer of utter Boris madness begins, damaging the country even further until the day he actually leaves #10.

@martinhutch

No, she has perogative to appoint a PM put forward by the house.
The grandees don't have the authority to put a leader in place and the party has no mechanism for doing so without a leadership election.
Without a leader they have no one who can claim enough support to be proposed. So no one the queen can assent to. They're currently being screwed over by their own democratic process.
If they did Brady would have taken rabb up for anointment yesterday immediately after meeting Boris.

The only real way is the opposition support a candidate with moderate tory support to form a government with something resembling a majority based on that opposition support.

We're in the farcical position where starmer needs to propose someone like May or Clarke form a government

The man really has no shame at all.

He's staying on as PM only because it still gives him a sliver of a chance to win the party back over.

He is staying on, to look for an angle, any crack that he can prise open and use to let him stay on as PM. This fire is not out yet.

The tories are as stupid as they look if they allow him to continue even for an hour more, he will burn them all in his quest for personal power.

If nothing else the resignation speech was true to form

- sees himself as the victim

- blames others

- can't quite believe that we all think he's shit at his job

Stay on as PM... or come back as PM. That speech didn't sound like he thinks it's really over. I agree that he's looking for a way...

Immediate improvement is just for unicorn dreamers.

Nothing will improve while the fuel cost is rising, food shortages and sanctions on Russia.

I predict many short term governments in future due to the above ... I see that coming. Told you sanctions are for silly billy.

The tories are as stupid as they look if they allow him to continue even for an hour more, he will burn them all in his quest for personal power.

Isn't that a good thing for the opposition party(s)? Let them burn themselves?

I suspect the next PM will not last for more than 3 years or a term regardless of the party they come from. LOL!

chewkw - out of interest, why are you such a Putin fan?

PS - the food shortages started, as I recall, when BoJo implemented his hard Brexit without checking we could import stuff from Europe, weak idiot that he is.

All the ministers that lied for Johnson as regards this meeting (and others) should be kept out of the new cabinet. Yes, that includes Raab.

Johnson should be excluded from the privy council. Time to revisit those security checks on him. He shouldn't be PM for a moment longer.

Slight distraction ... I am only answering question.

chewkw – out of interest, why are you such a Putin fan?

Because the west has overstepped the boundary. West has no business in that part of the world especially with Ukraine.

Now we all suffer ...

PS – the food shortages started, as I recall, when BoJo implemented his hard Brexit without checking we could import stuff from Europe, weak idiot that he is.

That is just a minor problem. Fuel or world grain were not affected then but when the sanctions start that's where a minor problem snowball into a global problem.
