Need a new suitcase for the family as the old snowboarding wheelie bag won’t cut it any more. Don’t want one of those 4 wheel spinner things but would like a 2 wheel hard shell. Was looking at a 75cm Samsonite Aeris but they seem to have issues with the catch/ lock. Any recommendations from STW? Thanks

Rimowa Salsa Air. Going strong here after about 7 years of frequent flying. The shiny outside quickly shows scratches but wheels, locks, zips and linings are like new.

If you know you won’t be in economy much / at all and weight isn’t an issue, then get the alu versions.

If you know you’ll be nervously checking in luggage and hoping for minimal excess charges (2 adults, one infant checking in 175kg is a family record) then the light baggage is great.

edit: completely missed the point of your post 🙂 Why not 4 wheels? Makes life much easier? They can always be used using only 2 wheels, should you wish to make life harder!

Delsey or Samsonite. End of. And yes, the four-wheeled variety do get damaged; the smaller wheels get knocked off.

Look around and see if yu can get a used Delsey Club, excellent cases with a good shape for packing. The only disadvantage is that the wheels are close together so they don’t roll very well on rough car parks.

    Get four wheels imho

Anyone got recommendations for the largest “legal” hard shell carry on case?

Fab case but bloody expensive. Having said that, the lock was once f***ed by an incompetent security checker, or thief, or someone, and I had it replaced at a quite reasonable cost.
