A friend had her trek hardtail nicked last night in Coventry. She's looking to get a replacement hardtail on the bikescheme for £1000. She's not necessarily stuck on women specific designs. Any recommendations for a good xc bike at this pricepoint would be gratefully received as the scheme only runs during May in her firm and she has to move fast.

That's crap. Got any pic's? I'll keep an eye out.

P7's are great, but no one in Cov sells them

I couldn't fault my 2008 Boardman. On its third owner, a fair bit too big for me and I think it was the Comp which is the lowest in the range I believe. Served me well for the 3 months till I got my Anthem. Value for money you can't go wrong only problem is you can't really test ride them and I'd definitely want to test ride a bike that cost me 1K

But it doesn't cost £1,000 on the cyclescheme – more like half that.

I have 2 Boardmands – the mid range full sus and the top of the range HT, both of which are excellent for the money. My preference is the HT, but that does depend on where you are riding.
