At the ripe old age of 30 I’ve bought my first (race) BMX and I’m absolutely loving it. Bmx tracks actually ride well in the wet and nailing a jump for the first time is a joy to behold. I only wish I’d started this years ago.

If you think you are too old for a bmx then consider a 24″ cruiser. Great for taking the kids to the bmx track!

Tried a cruiser. Didn’t like it at all, plus they’re ugly.

I’ve just bought a bmx for funsies, also picked up Tonsillitis, which kind of put a stop to riding for a few days. 🙁

I’ve nearly finished my race build (21.75″ XXL) – similar build to this – but with Saint cranks + SPDs 😀

I was surprised at how easy and difficult in equal measure bmx racing was. I found the twitchyness and super rigid feel hard to get on with (being used to big bouncy bikes normally) and dreaded hitting a jump at speed but I just pedalled hard at it to get myself up enough speed where I knew I would clear it and hoped for the best. It was so easy to jump, I was shocked. I immediately felt like I could fling th bike around in the air. It just pivoted effortlessly on my feet, great fun.

Race BMX is my next purchase, new track near me (one in Crawley) but not sure if any clubs?

I love riding at the BMX track in Brum, I cant justify a BMX so use my BFe. I need to get some Hookworms before I go next, High Rollers just don’t roll fast enough.

I found (when I ride my kids bmxs!) that I have a tendancy to almost flip the front up. I am sure I would get over that in time but it all felt too small (being 6ft).

I thought that too. Trying to justify spending a grand on a BMX bike was difficult but I managed to get over it 😀 I’m so glad I did though. So much fun and really satisfying when you start picking up all the little skills and nuances at the track plus they look so bloody cool.

I know what you mean, I’m 6’3 and was worried about that but having that longer TT makes a world of difference.

My Lad races BMX and I got board (and cold) watching him during the coaching sessions, so got involved used one of the club bikes and joined in.
Now at the grand age of 39 I have my own Crusier, a British cycling race licence and placed 3rd in the regional winter series. !!!

Ridiculous fun on the track, really good for fitness, its all sprints and out of the saddle so I have dropped a jeans size over the winter.

overall bike skills have improved learnt how to jump and am now getting the hang of manualing.

and I can’t wait to hit some technical trails to see if I;m better on my mountain bike and overall more aggressive.

I’ve found the sport is ridiculously cheap by comparison to MTB – so far, the race build has cost me about £200.

200 quid! Shrewd buyer! 😉

All I need is some spokes, chain, and a front chainring.

I’m amazed you’ve got near enough a full build for 200 quid, particularly with a redline frame. Good work.
