Thanks to two men meeting for some fondling action at Strensham Services on the M5 early this morning...some new ti niceness that came free with 3 lollipops for the Ti29er:

24hrs ago it was in hefty, Rohloff & Reba welsh wales build. Now in superlight Malvern formation. Weighs in at something like 19-20lbs on the bathroom scales with an eriksen Ti post, M965 XTR brakes w Aztec rotors, Middleburn cranks, SSC superlight F&R hubs, Sun Energiser rims, Ignitor rear, RR front, EC90 bars, FSA Stem.

And bonus points for anyone who can spot the deliberate mistake

Thanks again Taz, you'll be pleased to see they have a lovely new home. And the salsa QR goes perfectly with my matching salsa seat clamp. I am so looking forward to taking this out tonight!

ok, can you explain to me how you fit those forks? presumably the stearer is connected to the bottom crown which goes throught the headset, but then how does the top part connect on?

The deliberate mistake is that you didn't install a valve in the front wheel - extreme rad tubeless niche meister, I salute you!

no cigar - it's just above the "R" of Ralph.

can you explain to me how you fit those forks?

they're a bit of a git - only the presence of my son in the shed this morning prevented some minor cussing.

there's a removeable steerer that is inserted through the stack of fork clamps, headset parts, spacers and headtube. Clamped at the bottom, then preload with top cap, clamp the stem and then tighten the top fork clamp.

need to fill the space between the two fork clamps with sufficient spacers and shims until there's almost no play left, anything left can be taken up with the pre-load on the SFN.

Front brake hose 4 yards too long?
Massive rise bars on the front end of a 29er?
A gear dangler on a frame that only gets used either SS or with a hub gear?

Stoner.

You might find fitting easier if you take the bolts out of the clamps,fit them from the other side and put a coin in the slot in the middle. Then tighten the bolts until it opens the clamp up a little.
That way the steerer's a lot easier to slide in and out.

all perfectly valid, but not the one Im after.actually its hard to tell the mismatched grips from that picture.

anyone know a cheap online source for ODI style Oury grips?

Clink, did you not liek the jones or was it just not right for the riding you do. I quite like the look of the ordinary forked steel frame. And would welcome some owners thoughts.

In theory yes, but the consensus seems to be that it will be fine with current offset Rebas. A couple of people have said they even prefer it as slows steering down and makes them less twitchy.

At the end of the day it's a 70 degree ha - not unlike lots of other (newer) 29er frames out there.

I'm more concerned about whether to set it up 1x9 or with more gears!

I had seen this

It also has a Fisher-specific 51mm offset fork that does make it handle better than a standard 29er over a wider variety of riding speeds.

Its going to be interesting to see if I can notice the 55mm offset of the Jones forks on the Ti29er.

Loved it, particularly on anything going downhill. Very confidence inspiring. It didn't climb as well as my O-O ti frame (but it's obviously heavier).

Couldn't justify keeping 2 rigid ss bikes. Hopefully will now have 2 bikes that are sufficiently different.

Thanks - hadn't seen that. It's the older frame though, that kept breaking!! The new one is stiffer and beefed up.
