  • BB7 Outers – full length or not?

I've had BB7s on the Sutra since I got it and am now building up something else, but the new frame has cable stops. So, I have a bit of a dilemma; drill them out/cut them/fit crappy adapters to run full length again, or use the cable stops as intended. I'd fit those nice XTR-style end caps of course….

Use the stops, then if you decide you don't like it later, change to full length. Obvious innit.

Gore brake cables? Full inner sleeve covers whole cable but fits through eyelets. Nice outers too.

Or just zip tie a full length outer to the frame. Not pretty but functional.

Avid FMJ's work very well with BB7's.

When I used Avid mechanicals, I used Gore Tex cables – did the job nicely. Did use full length outers once when I ran them on a FS bike, and that was OK, but a pain in the arse to keep the cable lubed.

I never lube any cables. Teflon inners and SP41 outers don't need lubing.
