mail sponging machine off of here, he'll tell you its a pile of shite and that there is no real off road riding anywhere near his house (barnstaple)
if you don't want to spend your time riding around the edges of fields then stick to the quantocks or exmoor if you are staying there.

there's some stuff. not much, but snapper is worth a play – just a short little dh-y track, probably in terrible condition at the moment though. head out of barny on the goodleigh road (bear street?), keeping left at the goodleigh fork. through the village of snapper, and then after a bit you'll come to a left hand turn over a little bridge. park almost immediately and follow the fireroad up. the track takes a little finding, but there's some other stuff in the woods. nothing worth writing home about.

if you were down for longer, there's loads of worthwhile stuff north of braunton but it takes a lot of finding and a fair amount of roadwork to link up.

Is that on the road linking Braunton to Ilfracombe near the caravan park?

No its not that one. its the B road leading north east out of Barny heading towards Bratton Fleming – and quite honestly Snapper is only a little place best used as part of a longer ride. I do have a reasonable local route including Snapper which we usually use when its a bit dry (which rarely happens in North Devon).
You could go over to Arlington Court from Loxhore Cott which might make a quick, but less muddy, alternative.
