We have just had our first baby and want to set up a savings account, are there any that you would recommend and do you need the birth cert to set it up?

Do the government still do that investment isa type thing where they stick in the first 200 quid?

edit: if not an isa that focuses on blue chip investments would probably be the best bet.

I was advised to keep the account in my name rather than baby’s. That way, you choose when to hand over the cash rather than the government on baby’s 18th.

Depends how cynical you are I suppose. My thoughts are its theirs to do as they pleased. But be prepared that it Might get pissed up the wall/spent on a Masserattii.
