As per the thread below, i will be getting some Avid Elixir Rs tomorrow.

I need to shorten the hose but have no bleed kit yet, can i do it like with shimano? I.e. Remove pads and pump pistons out a bit, cut hose at lever end and insert new barb and olive, screw together, open reservoir cap, push pistons back in, refit pads?

Also – regarding bedding in – what is the best method (not just go and ride) – i am talking for bite and longevity of pads.

    Cheers in advance

Based on my experience of building quite a lot of bikes equipped with these brakes, most of them benefit from a proper bleed to start with. I'd suggest getting one of the kits that somebody on here mentioned over the last few days and spend a bit of time getting them right to start with, it's worth the effort(worth spending the extra time getting the calipers perfectly aligned too).

There's no resevoir cap to remove – the way to bleed them is a lttle different. Bite the bullet and buy the pukka bleed kit
