… UST tyres that will run on a Mavic 819 UST rim without tubes or latex?

Or does the 'LUST' refer to way we're supposed to feel about them?

They will, although I used to put a bit of sealant in mine anyway.

They are thinner than normal UST tyres

The L refers to lightweight i think mate. They will run without sealant but your better off sticking a capfull or so of stans etc in as without it the ust system only protects you from pinch flats.
I have ust 2.1 kendas and 819's and use 1 and a 1/2 capfulls of stans.

Thanks all. That's what I though but wanted to check. I always use latex in my current tubeless set-up but it's not tubeless rims and tyres. I wanted to avoid the 'not without latex' answers!

Setvede – do you know of a link that explains how to build with these 819 rims? I can't get my head around the lack of holes in the rim.

If you're planning on building wheels I can recommend Roger Musson's book, available as a download from the Wheelpro website.

Both sets of wheels I've built so far have been with XM819 rims. The spokes sit inside an insert that is screwed and threadlocked into the rim before you start building; does make the process a bit more laborious.

This Mavic link explains it: http://www.mavic.com/mtb/technologies/FORE.2.3335.aspx

    Thanks househusband.

Roger Musson's book is excellent and answered my question.

Now to calculate some spoke lengths.

XM819 rims have a 538 ERD, if that helps your calcs.
