Anyone test driven new Alfa Giulietta?

i thought the Giulietta was designed to appeal to the fairer sex and that's why they have Uma advertising it and it does look a bit of a hairdressers car to me
I know what you mean - but Alfas always seem to be a man's choice of "pretty" car.
Some marques do a pretty / stylish car and it does become a bit of a girls / hairdresser statement, dare I suggest, MX5, BMW mini, Beetle mk2, 205 CTi.
To describe a mechanical object in "humanised" terms, Alfa's seem to me to have a male:female attraction* rather than a female:female affinity. The last GTV coupe is a good example - very pretty, but not something I'd regard as a sterotypical womans car. The Fiat Coupe of the same era was equally stylish, but much more "muscular" in appearance - Now show me a clean 20V NA Fiat Coupe and I would be very tempted...
* Presumably this is where the Alfa ad folks are going with the Uma Thurman tie in - trying to elicit the "Mmmm sexy, I want" type response.

Mmmm sexy, I want
Yeah, from fat middle-aged frustrated men who can actually take an advert of that level of stupidity seriously...

That 159 has the rear door handles in the wrong place...

I've just seen one on the M6 - I thought it was a new Astra at first. Should I get my coat?

Should I get my coat?
Interesting question. The only qualifying criteria that have been declared publicly so far for participating in a motoring-related thread are an appreciation of the benefits of rear-wheel drive, and of the relative advantages and disadvantages of petrol engines when compared to diesel ones.
Nobody has yet ruled on the importance of the ability to distinguish one family hatchback from another on the motorway (that I've seen anyway)...

Should I get my coat?
No - first time I saw an Astra I thought the Giulietta had been launced early
Anyway, someone mentioned skiing - I'm no longer interested in cars

Have had a 164,155,75,166 and 156. Out of them all the 75 was an absolute bloody lunatic, I miss it so much! The 155 reminded me of my old 205 GTI, pointy and revvy. The rest, good enough cars but a bit meh really, the present 156 I have is a very quick point to point car for very little cash but I think it says it all when the one I enjoyed most is the one made before Fiat bought them over.
It was mental, inboard discs, de-dion axle, gearbox over the rear axle for weight distribution and the buttons for the windows were in the centre of the roof, thats what modern alfas lack, mechanical flair and a bit of daftness. Oh yeah, ironically it was pig ugly

Mine was red of course!

Folks seem to be ditching these at the mo V6 engined GT - high CO2 / Tax / fuel, but at under £9k....
Now to find a nice late low mileage red one....

Old Alfas were superb. Unreliable but SO fun.
You must be a fair bit older than me, I never got to drive them as contemporary vehicles
SO fun
Are you American? or just a bit camp?

a bright red 309 GTi
+1
I had a pre-facelift black one, with the full electric pack and the huge slidy roof. Quick, but if you wanted to, could be driven around in 5th at 30mph - wonderful 8v injected motor.
And on Alfa's, a friend recently bought a Brera. I've driven it and what it really needs is an auto box (its the 3.2), and then it would be a perfect Grand Tourer. This replaced a 2.5 156 that went pop, even though he'd religously looked after it - when it went in for a belt service they found that it had crankshaft float, it had only done 90k!

I don't think the question should be has anyone test driven an Alfa but has anyone driven 50k miles in one....
I had a 96P Alfa 146 with a 1.6 boxer engine that I bought with 12k miles on. New clutch at 100k miles and another new clutch at 133k (cheap pattern clutch, what can you expect?). That engine sounded fantastic, and was pretty quick
If the cheap chain fast fit grease monkey had done a proper job putting the gearbox driveshafts back together after he'd fitted the new clutch, it would have lasted a hell of a lot longer. Oh what the hell. They're in Keighley, opposite B&Q. Don't let them touch anything other than your tyres, and even those I'd take the wheels off yourself & roll them in
next car was a 156 T-Spark with 4k miles on the clock, which I traded in after (a) cambelt failure and (b) head gasket failure (both fixed under warranty BTW) at 76k miles.
would I have another? If the boot on the 159 SW was big enough, yes I would
