  • Anyone here into their motor's (cars)?
  • He broke his leg in an unfortunate, low speed, minor motorbike crash and died of a blood clot two weeks later.
That’s his Mk1 Cortina tow car behind in the picture.
The Escort was painted in Ford’s blue & white colour scheme, but there was some dispute with the guy who painted it, which is why the “Paint and bodywork by” signwriting was blanked out on the rear wing.

I’ve just noticed he’s got Esso Uniflow and Duckhams Q stickers on there, two rival oil manufacturers.
According to the website where I found the picture, he was taking part in the Esso Uniflow challenge, it was probably a condition of entry that all cars had to display the official sticker.
Some motoring related companies would pay a reward to any driver who was pictured in a magazine with one of their stickers, which would probably explain the Duckhams and other stickers, as he wasn’t sponsored or supported in any way.

here’s my rolling VAG cliche parked outside my middle aged middle management house (paper boy delivering my Guardian just out of shot ) :

Even more cliche…..is that a Skoda Octavia estate in the background ??

That’s my brother, Steve Phillips, with his 1594cc Lotus twin cam Escort in the paddock at Silverstone in April 1977.

I used to get taken to Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Mallory Park etc. at weekends as pit crew.

    Cool.

I’m the other way around. Lotus Elise S2 with an engine conversion: Ford 2.3L Duratec :). Bags of power and torque. Use it on track days at Silverstone, Donington, Oulton, Cadwell, Rockingham, Bedford etc. Most recently Spa – oh my word, what an incredible circuit.

I have to defend the world of cyclists on the Lotus forums 🙂

Wifelet has an A5 Quattro 3.0D. More torque than you could ever need. I love it.

Looking for Jag XF as her next car when she decides to change up 🙂

I had them fitted as a place to permanently carry the sort of stuff that you don’t want inside – recovery gear/bbq/extra fuel on long trips – it also uses up some valuable space that would otherwise simply be wasted.

Very nice IIa. I really miss my old one, have been looking at this list with a certain amount of wanty-ness.

Hi Karen, I love cars too. I can’t before or justify a sporty saloon sadly, my ride is a Nissan Patrol 3.0L Turbo Intercooled. I’m posting off my phone so no picture (and it’s filth at the mo anyway!). Plans for mods are to have a look at where the chip is at now, and maybe make some changes, but firstly and mostly I want to deal with the exhaust reticulation and have the head off and get the carbon build up gone. That Elise is stunning 😛 . Love the colour and those are the wheels of choice on a S1. Is that a JDM engine with the extra BHP’s and slippy diff?

This is what gets me from A to B –

I’ve had it nearly three years now and recently been thinking of a change. The only problem is that performance wise there’s nothing for my 10-12k budget that will come close to it. I’m leaning towards a Clio 182 for 5k and spending the change on motorbikes….

Same as beej – RS4 Avant except in Avus Silver. Previously had a 993 and before that a succession of rice burners (WRX Sti, WRX x 2)

Re the Bora comment – VW’s/Audis really don’t do it for me as a drivers car. (great mile munchers/commuters just not a drivers car). Subaru’s are a different matter.

Heres my current bit of fun and boy £ for £ I don’t there is anything out there that competes on that front.

I love cars. Lack of garage though means anything ‘special’ would have to be parked on the road – missus won’t let anything be parked in the yard since we’ve had it re-paved and tarted up. So we’re currently down to a ‘boring’ Skoda Octavia vRS 2.0 TSI estate. I like it… swallows loads of stuff for holidays / biking / surfing / B&Q runs but shifts a bit.

Past list of second weekend cars includes a 6N2 Polo GTI that was huge fun. Slammed, ATS Cups, full heated leather, carbon induction and a few other goodies. Was like a go-kart and if a job interview materialises next week and I’m offered it, another GTI is on the list as I’ll need a car to commute in. Then before the Polo were three mk1 MX5s. A 93 S-Special that had just come off the boat, then a year or so later another boggo standard Eunos that we ended up splitting up for parts and scrapping as it was a rotter and then the best, another S-Special. LSD, BBS RS wheels, Bilsteins, hard top, Nardi kit inside, OEM splitter. A flippin amazing car and it hurts to think we sold it… but it was just after our son was born so needs must. Still, made a healthy profit selling it so can’t complain too much.

You on ED38 Karen? Lovely Bora. Thats on the potential commuter car list too along with a mk4 Golf.

Mate has a mk3 Polo GT he’s putting loads of work into at the moment. Can’t wait to have a go in it.

My first ever company car was a 205 GTi – lots of fun it was. Replaced with a Honda Civic VTi which was quite a lot faster and was until recently still the fastest car I’d had.

In the last couple of years I’d dropped to running a 1.2 Honda Jazz as we needed something cheap to insure for my daughter to learn on. When she passed her test and took the car my wife and I had a difference of opinion on what to replace it with. SWMBO wanted a Porsche but I wanted a fast estate car (a 2.8 V6 turbo Saab) so I could get the bikes in the back. We compromised on a little Merc C230 Coupe which is nice enough and reasonably quick.

Currently I’m thinking about persuading SWMBO to take the Merc as her own car and buy an RS4 or RS6 estate, although I’m a little concerned about the potential fuel bills! Having said that I was in a hurry on the way home yesterday to get back in time for the TDF highlights and the Merc reported 13.8mpg for the trip!

Here’s a rather poor iPhone image of my Merc, proving rear wheel drives can be driven in the snow (although it did require fitting of the autosocks to get home that night):

Thankyou Fudd, very nice EVO btw!

It’s not a JDM but has 225bhp as the EMS is completely remapped to suit the different in-take and exhaust manifolds. The cold start is taken direct from the civic. It also has the 6speed box, thankfully! The VTEC point is lowered to 4250 and the limiter set to 8600rpm. It’s a 2005+ engine so has the lighter fly. It also has a race cat fitted and baffled sump.
